I am really impressed with how these guys are doing for a new team but why is it that the 14 is so much better than the 39? I'm sure the boss gets the better equipment but Newman and Stewart is a better driver but Newman should be up near the front as well. What do you guys think is going on?

remember- Ryan wasn't the most stellar thing in the 12 car either. I think it's a combination of driver and CC. But i think it's also fairly obvious that Tony is picking his stuff.

Why do you think that Newman should be near the front. He is not near as good a driver as Tony. Even in identical cars I believe that Tony would be heads and tails better than Ryan, not to mention the chemistry between driver and crew.

Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kurt Bush, Kyle Bush (much as it pains me), Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, etc to name a few are better than Newman IMHO.

I have to agree! Just do not count Ryan out yet. I think Ryan's learning curve might just be a bit behind Tony's. The proof in the pudding will be Charlotte.

why Lowes?

HEre's my thought- Tony is trying to set a high bar. You may not be able to win on loaned equip, but i'm willing to bet if Tony can geet bringing these top 5's all year long, we'll see him in Vegas.

I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that these were the #66 and #70 cars that were not making the show every week last year.

Ryan loves Charlotte. If not Charlotte watch him at Michigan on Fathers day. The "loaned equipment" comment has me wondering... Tony was driving GM equipment for ten years before he was in a Toyota. Ryan has just started driving GM equipment.

Please do not try to tell me all of the cars are the same.:sarcasm:

VERY good point.

night and day difference when you get a hendrick crew chief, a champion, and some know-how (no pun intended) in place isn't it?

There not. They have new crews and more money coming in and better drivers. Just think of the sponsor dollars alone that Tony has brought in.

I think if you're going to be comparing, there are a lot of different factors, one being Tony is a stellar driver with a great CC.

Just because they're on the same team doesn't mean equal success. Look at the Hendrick bunch? The 24/48 teams are in the same shop together and last year Jeff couldn't get anything done and we all know where JJ ended up. Same thing this year. Mark is doing better, but Junior, not so much.

Same thing with Rousch - some of the engines have problems, others don't.

Give Ryan some time. All the naysayers didn't think Tony would be doing so well this year at all.

Basically his teams are an extension of Hendrick, I think that their engines and chasis are hendrick equipment. I could be wrong, but if you did some digging the trail would lead to HMS.

it does. SHR hangs their own bodies...everything else is HMS equipment.

They are basically a Hendrick team. I fully believe that Hendrick was the one behind getting Tony hooked up with ownership of this team. He said at the press conference he didn't have to pay one dollar to buy his part of the team. He was asked at that press conference if Chevy paid him any money to buy it and he said no. After Johnson beat him at Richmond, JJ said in victory lane about Tony being his new teammate. It's not hard to figure out that Hendrick is the one behind all of this. That's why I thought they'd be a better team than most people thought.

I also remember Tony making a comment when they were announcing that Mark would drive the 5 that he would like to have that ride. Maybe Rick made it happen?

agreed, of course. Even I'm calling them the 5th and 6th hendrick teams.
