Interesting comments from Tony Stewart about the most recent penalties of Busch/Harvick and what does 'Have at it Boys' really mean?

ON THE $25,000 FINE AND PROBATION KYLE BUSCH AND KEVIN HARVICK RECEIVED FROM NASCAR:

“I’m kind of feeling like I need to send NASCAR an invoice because I got penalized a lot more, had to pay a lot more in fines and more weeks of probation for doing a lot less than what happened this past weekend and the last two weeks. I feel like I’m owed some money back. We all know what the outcome will be, we’ll never see it.’’

“I’m kind of curious know to what the true meaning of Have at it Boys. What is it? I think they need to do a better job of explaining to all of us what it means and what it is acceptable and what is not acceptable. I’m all for whatever they want to do. I think there’s a lot of us are curious about what does this really mean and what’s acceptable and what’s not. I don’t think it’s out of the question to know what’s acceptable and what’s not acceptable.’’

YES, BUT ISN’T IT BEST FOR NASCAR TO HAVE SOME AMBIGUITY TO HAVE THAT POWER TO MAKE SURE YOU GUYS DON’T CROSS THE LINE TOO MUCH?

“I don’t think so. If you’re Kyle and Kevin right now and you’re having to pay $25,000 out of your pocket, you want to know what’s going to cost you money. You want to know what is acceptable and what’s not acceptable. I think we have a right to know.

“You want NASCAR to make sure they have the authority to do that. You have to have that. At the same time, don’t leave us the impression that you’re turning us loose and then, all of a sudden, you start throwing penalties and fines.

“We understand that’s got to happen, but give us the guidelines. Be fair to us and let us know. Then with maybe that knowledge those guys don’t get in that situation Saturday night.

“We don’t know. I’ve been driving in this series for 13 years and I don’t know what’s acceptable and what’s not. What’s the penalty? We know what’s right and what’s wrong, but sometimes you sit there and you weigh the option of is the penalty worth it? At least let us know what it is, so we have that option to make a decision.’’

Excerpts from here.

I think he's right. The Montoya/Newman incident 2 weeks ago, if that wasn't a deliberate dump I don't know what is. Yet not a peep from na$car.

If they say it's ok to "have at it" on the track they should be able to "have at it" behind the haulers too. Just my 2¢

It's going to get out of control IMO, some one is going to get hurt. If any of this crap happened at the local level, do you think for a minute the drivers wouldn't of been black flagged? I can't remember the last time I saw a driver get black flagged for on the track incident. I think it is time that started happening. All the drama is kind of interesting for a little while, but then it starts to get old. I like to watch racing for just that racing, when drivers start taking out each other, then results in others getting their equipment bent up, I have a problem with that.

As long as the networks keep leading their promos with the wrecks and fights we'll keep seeing them on TV.

I'm not a fan either yet there still seems to be a contingent of Madhouse mentality fans out there that are looking for the confrontation. Also, while I don't care for it I'd have to say that it sure gets people talking. Instead of NASCAR fining Busch/Harvick $25,000.00 perhaps they should have paid them for services rendered. I've had a number of non NASCAR fan friends this week ask about what happened because they saw something about it on the local news. I live in the Pittsburgh, PA market. They don't talk about NASCAR here. They did this week though. The powers that be @ NASCAR have to be smiling over this latest battle between these two.

"Have At It Boys" really means Go out there wreck each other, tear up expensive equipment that others will have to fix and pay for.So we can use the footage to promote next weeks race that we are having problems selling tickets to anymore but that's it.

Maybe the line is "Keep all the Drama rama llama in the confines of the race so that we can be sure to get it on camera and use it for our newest promo!"

Am I the only one who's thinking NASCAR is prepuating the sterotypes that Stock car racing is for rednecks?

exactly

WOW! I am not taking Stewart in the fantasy league for at least a month. NASCAR will have to take him to school, again.

“If you’re going to crash, crash big. If you’re going to fight, do it in front of the fans.”

it's an old quote that i've seen attributed to many, many dirt track promotors. one varition has it that at the drivers meeting the promotor tells the racers: "fight in the pits, it's gonna cost you money. fight on the front stretch, i'll pay you."

nascar seems to be embracing the philosophy. and if television ratings jump back up, watch out!

anyway, here's the article where i found the quote:

http://www.onedirt.com/features/editorials-opinions/running-with-scissors-fighting-at-the-track/

there are some inaccuracies in the story (the confrontation occurred during, not after the race).

also, the race was shown on speedtv with interviews. will vaught's comments made him look even dumber than his actions in the pits.

gotta love racing!

The secret is out...

... saw this on Twitter.

In response to Stewart's request for NASCAR to further clarify the 'Have at it' term, NASCAR released the following diagram.....

Nascar would get a lot more exposure if they would just give the drivers wives a bikini and a bottle of oil, and let them fight for their husbands.:growl:
