Tony Stewart's second Nextel Cup victory at Indianapolis Motorsports Speedway turned out to be a costly one.

Stewart on Tuesday was fined $25,000 and stripped of 25 driver points for using inappropriate language during a live post-race interview on ESPN following his victory in Sunday's Allstate 400.

During his interview, Stewart said, "This is for my fans that pull for me week in and week out that put up with all the (expletive)."

Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet, retains his fifth-place standing in series points, with his total reduced to 2,599. Stewart's car owner, Joe Gibbs, was penalized 25 car owner points as well.

The last Cup driver to receive a similar penalty was Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was docked 25 points and fined $10,000 for using inappropriate language during a live post-race interview following his win at Talladega, Ala., in 2004.

Interestingly enough he was racing tonight and so couldn't do his show live on Sirius. Instead they ran a Best Of where he was talking to Edwards about his win at Eldora...

I'm still wondering why there was no tape delay.

...While NASCAR officials would later say they thought there was a network delay protecting the driver, ESPN officials said delays are only used on replays of radio conversations, not live victory lane interviews. "It was an unfortunate incident that we did not anticipate," said ESPN officials in a statement.

...Stewart, driver of the #20 Home Dept Chevrolet, retains his fifth-place standing in the series points, with his total points reduced to 2,599. Stewart violated Section 12-4-A of the series rule book (actions detrimental to stock car racing) by using the inappropriate language.

They need to always have a delay anymore. They have cameras and mics everywhere. Seems like the there is a delay on the audio in Trackpass/Pitcomand/Raceview, it's always about half a lap behind the visuals. But, I understand it's not intentional.

While that is not a word I typically use in my everyday language I do remember many years back when I used to join the fellows for a Durham Bulls baseball game at the old park. When there was a disagreement with an umpire call we would heartily encourage our players Bulls Hit, Bulls Hit... :)

ahhh the durham bulls.....i went to a game there when i was real small...i saw three events for one ticket.

got to see a baseball game...comedy act (guys in front of us were so drunk they thought they were watching the Braves) and a fist fight in front of us.

When did you go cause it could've been my crowd? We routinely down a sixer each on the drive from Raleigh to Durham and then drink a beer an inning, 16 ouncers at that. It got to a point you started hoping for long innings. We sat on the 3rd base side so we could ride the baseman. We would sometimes get them so flustered they'd commit errors. Don't remember a fight, but hey there could've been... :D

haha it was probably about 15 or 20 years ago.....it was great.

You better be careful. "You-Know-Who" will be all over you for drinking. :)
