I was thinking about this yesterday...then figured it might not be for the best. But after watching the NNW race and how Danica made it so obious that you really need a partner that you have confidence in (no offense to Danica, I doubt anybody worked with her in practice)...

My approach would be - just fan out at the start of the race and find your preferred partner. Run with a partner you are comfortable with for 450 miles or so to avoid being lapped (Nascar will always find a hotdog wrapper to throw a caution for)...then it's "no-holds-barred" to the finish.

Makes sense to me...:dpepsi:

Any thoughts??

Absolutely. A carbon copy of todays race, just an extra hour or so to putz around the house.
A hotdog wrapper would absolutely end a guys day at Daytona now.......

I haven't decided if I'll waste my time watching the entire race, there is a lot of hockey on tomorrow, hmmmm....decisions....yep hockey wins out.

Stewart says he's 100 pct confident drivers "will start pairing up at the drop of the green flag, and they will stay that way for 500 miles"

Jeez, ya think Tony?? It's that, or go laps down....

I don't see many dropping to the back, and avoiding the big one tomorrow.

C'mon Mopar...you have to watch it...this is a "one time only" Daytona 500. Guarranteed they're going to change the rules/car configurations a bunch next year to prevent this from happening again. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Well...

Yes, they are going to fuel injection next year.

The thing that concerns me is we may see teams pair up (i.e. Stewart and Newman, Harvick and Bowyer, Biffle and Edwards, Gordon and Martin, Kahne and Vickers). I'd kind of like to see it like the old days where only 14 or 15 cars finish on the lead lap.

Numbering

A big problem for me will be the numbering. Since I plan on charting the dual teams - how do I keep track when the numbers when they are the same?

example:

#53 (14+39) Stewart/Newman - Office Depot/US Army Chevy

#53 (48+5) Johnson/Martin - Lowes/Go Daddy Chevy

alas....

Isn't that what we had the last 2 days.12 or 13 finishing on the lead lap in both races.

And just think, we have 3 more races just like this one coming up later this year.

I don't think it will be the same at Dega in April, and definetly won't be the same when they come back to Daytona in July. The temps alone in July won't allow this type of racing.
