hey guys im new to the site. 1st post actually! i'm looking for some general knowledge about streetbikes. preferrabley about a new yamaha R6. im 16 and i dont have much bike experience. alot on motocross quads and such but not much on 2 wheelers. any pointers? i love the bike and stuff and i know its alot of bike for a enw guy but im not gonna try and be a pro im 5 minutes just because i can work a clutch. is leaning on a streetbike pretty much teh same deal as on a snowmobile and quad? also i want to know some stuff on the bike itself is it a good bike for me? i'm a powerhungry teen i will tell you that i had a yamaha banshee on alky running 535cc powervalved cylinders and it was a sand drag bike only. i could hold onto that so i dont think a streetbike is going to be that bad. im just the new guy looking for some pointers. you can email me if you want at [email protected] im canadian to eh'
haha see ya'll later

first off welcome to the forums stylemaster, sit down and stay a while.

Its hard to beat the 600 class anymore. All 4 of the top manufactures have great bikes but if you want the best go for the R6. No question. Others are good in a couple of things but the R6 is good all around. They all have about the same HP, but the R6 is 15 pounds lighter. New for this year I think is a over rev system which allows you to get that extra drive while others have to make a quick shift up and then back down.
Excellent front end control with class leading brakes lets the rider ride on the brake up to the point where his knee touches down. Then through the corner, the chassis really works great with the suspension it lets a person to carry more speed through the apex than on any other 600 I beleve. Its racy and still comfortable. Its currently 1-2and 4th in the AMA 600 class. I think this covers an overview. Anything more Just ask.

so you think i'll be fine on a 600? since im just starting off? haha i dont think my knees are going to be touching any time soon thats too fast..... (wait untill next year for that  ) i mean i know about powerbands and such with 2 strokes and i know the powerband in the banshee i currentley own (not powervalved just piped) will bring the front end up on pavement and it accellerates like crazy there. if i really come onto a streetbike while im moving along in like 1st or 2nd gear is it gonna come up on me? and what do you do for maitenance on these things anyhow? i mean im really new to 2 wheelers loli rode a CBR954 15 feet at the dealership into the garage to be put away for the night. thats about all i got haha

what about a '99 kawasaki ZX 6R? i found one of them used in the auto seller for $6500 (canadian cash) looks stock but its a nice looking bike from the picture. its not too far away from me either. im not going to be racing the bike or anything.

yes the front end will come up under hard accelerating :)

Kawi's are as reliable but they are still a good bike when they are working. I looked up the blue book value of the 99 6R and US cash its worth 4950, assuming its in good condition. I don't know the exchange rate off hand. A R6 of the same vintage is 600 dollars more. I got these numbers from kbb.com
