1. (1) RYAN NEWMAN
All of a sudden, it seems realistic for Ryan to get up to 2nd in points. Who would have guessed it?

2. (2) KEVIN HARVICK
He made a last ditch run for the win in the tri-oval, but lack of drafting help set him back in the final 100 yards.

3. (3) MATT KENSETH
Yes, he is human after all. But still super enough to have a two-race cushion.

4. (4) JIMMIE JOHNSON
He came out on the losing end of a DEI bumping match, and then the engine gave out when he seemed to be making a run again.

5. (7) TONY STEWART
I could have sworn that Tony passed Rusty under the yellow line on the final lap. I guess NASCAR missed that one.

6. (11) DALE EARNHARDT JR.
Depending on whom you believe, he and Ryan have made cases to either keep the lap-back rule or get rid of it.

7. (6) JAMIE McMURRAY
Ryan’s not the only one making a late charge up the point ladder. Jamie’s now up to 17th, and has passed Sterling.

8. (5) TERRY LABONTE
Lost a big chunk of his top-10 cushion this weekend. He’s still got some chances to hold on to it.

9. (14) JEFF GORDON
Came out on the upper hand of a four-way flash receiving the checkered flag.

10. (13) KURT BUSCH
He was 23rd on the final restart with 4 laps to go. He finished 6th. Man, I LOVE restrictor plates!

11. (9) BILL ELLIOTT
He actually only 194 points out of 10th. A win might be enough of a push to get him over the hump.

12. (16) ROBBY GORDON
Put the RCR power to work at the end of the race and salvaged a respectable finish.

13. (8) JEREMY MAYFIELD
A flat tire brought his hot streak to an end. At least it only collected 6 other cars, not 26.

14. (10) RICKY RUDD
He also had a hot streak cooled off, his due to a blown engine.

15. (18) RUSTY WALLACE
Four straight top-10 finishes have him moving back towards respectability in points. He’s been very strong at both visits to Kansas.

16. (17) BOBBY LABONTE
He made it through the entire race without a mark on the car. But, you see, there’s this thing called a cool-down lap…

17. (12) JEFF BURTON
In a sense, we should thank Jeff’s engine for giving out, because it kept fuel mileage from affecting the finish.

18. (15) GREG BIFFLE
He was three laps late of taking advantage of the lucky dog pass – and it kept him from gaining any rookie points.

19. (20) DALE JARRETT
One of the big losers, position-wise, in the final mad dash to the finish.

20. (28) MICHAEL WALTRIP
Okay, he can win outside of Florida. Now to work on winning without a plate.

21. (23) WARD BURTON
He was another loser on the final run, going from 3rd to 14th.

22. (19) ELLIOTT SADLER
Sadly, Elliott’s wreck is an example of why we DO have restrictor plates. Imagine how bad that could have been while going 230 instead of 190.

23. (22) MARK MARTIN
Unlike his teammate, he went from contending for the win to the last car on the lead lap. Man, I HATE restrictor plates!

24. (25) JOE NEMECHEK
Got victimized by the 2nd caution flag, and could never recover.

25. (21) JOHNNY BENSON
In typical Johnny B at Talladega fashion, he was eliminated in a wreck.

26. (30) DAVE BLANEY
Now Jasper Motorsports has gone and got themselves in the same boat that Bill Davis did. And they have no 2nd team to help compensate.

27. (29) JOHN ANDRETTI
If you get into an RCR or DEI car at Talladega, you WILL look good.

28. (31) RICKY CRAVEN
Finishing 8th at Talladega with both ends of the car covered in tape is no small feat.

29. (24) JIMMY SPENCER
It only took 9 laps to prove why Jimmy hates plates that aren’t used for dinner.

30. (26) STEVE PARK
Steve’s fate is sealed. Time to start looking for a Busch Series ride.

31. (27) STERLING MARLIN
The engine expired before Sterling had a chance to prove how good he is at plate racing, or chess, or poker, or whatever you want to call it.

32. (33) KENNY WALLACE
Kenny wasn’t feeling as much of the Sting as he normally does at big tracks. Maybe Scott stole his stash.

33. (36) KEN SCHRADER
Unlike the last time that Kenny qualified well, the car and power plant held together for an okay finish.

34. (35) MIKE SKINNER
Pit problem dropped Mike from being a contender to the win, to not even having a chance to get a free pass.

35. (34) JASON LEFFLER
He wasn’t fast enough. So he went home. That’s how it should be.

36. (38) TONY RAINES
Funny how an un-sponsored single-car team made the field with room to spare, while well-funded multi-car team legs went home.

37. (32) TODD BODINE
Another team that just couldn’t find the speed to get in the race.

38. (37) CASEY MEARS
He was the 2nd Ganassi driver to have an engine let him down. Bet Chip wasn’t happy about that.

39. (39) KYLE PETTY
It’s kind of funny how the other two Petty cars safely made the field, while the one with a Petty in it didn’t.

40. (40) MORGAN-McCLURE
They just kind of cinched up not having a sponsor next year. Don’t be surprised to not even see this car on the track.

41. (41) CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI
He finally got the Bugles car into a race. They can stop asking for a refund now.

42. (42) LARRY FOYT
Larry should send DEI a Christmas card. And make sure he puts plenty of bracing on that broken wrist.

5. (7) TONY STEWART
I could have sworn that Tony passed Rusty under the yellow line on the final lap. I guess NASCAR missed that one.

They both flirted with that yellow line several times during that race. ;)
