Stuff I learned from Mid Ohio

Just finished watching it...here are my thoughts:

Jaques Villanuevemay be thankfully unemployed, but that doesnt mean we can have people that are just as dirty as him. Behold, Nelson Piquet Jr! :p

AJ Allmendinger is the best road racer there is right now. I would love to see a race between him and some of the more legendary ringers like Boris Said and Ron Fellows.

Mid Ohio isnt terrible, but Road America is better.

Regan Smith must be really hating road courses.

And Kenny Havul is like e JWT of road ringers...didnt he spin out 4 times? Not to mention he divebombed a corner and ran Allgier off the track?

It seems that Ron Fellows is past his prime in terms of contending for wins (likewise with Boris Said). I think that was apparent at Montreal last year, and this year he couldn't keep up with AJA and McDowell at Mid-Ohio.

Habul is a gentleman driver filling out the field with his own team.

Allmendinger is a good racer but Nationwide isn't exactly full of good road course drivers. The fact that Sam Hornish is the best regular on road courses (while being average at them in Indycar) speaks to that. One-off "ringers" often saturate the top 10 when they enter. Sprint Cup is a different story because the regulars have actually put some effort in to developing their road course performance. Jimmie Johnson winning at Sonoma, for example, and Truex's recent success at both road course races this season.

JMO...enough with the road course love. it is a great for a couple times a season, but make these guys do it more often and you'll end up with a one lane parade that we all whine about.

great call on AJ. but I believe his talent extends beyond just road courses.
