The day started off very well --- the sun was shining! But, just after 10AM the clouds started moving in and looking very ominous.
The track went into hurry-up mode, trying to get things moving as quickly as possible.
Tony, as pole sitter, proved to have a very good car in the beginning. But, then the rain came --- 2:26 minutes worth of waiting commenced.
Driving around under caution, Ty Norris told Junior that some were crying about it still raining. Junior said they were scared of it being dark. He said if it had just been a dark cloud with a few sprinkles, we'd be out here racing like a m.....f....r.
After one pitstop, Junior felt a vibration and thought a tire was going down. He ran a few more laps, the pressure built up and the vibration went away. He told Tony Jr. to not do that any more! Junior really didn't have many complaints about the handling of the car all day. At times he was the fastest car on the track, particularly in long runs.
Toward the end, when the rain began again, he tried to get by DJ for 4th but backed off when the car started sliding on the wet track. He was up-beat about how good the car had been all day, but was disappointed in finishing 5th. He knew they were better than that.
I tried to listen to Tony's channel, but the catering service kept over-riding his channel. In fact, I had a hard time keeping Junior on the radio. The MRN radio broadcast kept breaking in. I think I was sitting right under the booth.
All in all, rain and all, I had a grand time at the track. The racing was great. Cars were passing on the bottom, on the top, and frequently in the middle. There were position fights going on all over the track.
