IMO, this is just plain wrong.

From Jayski:

Sunoco still not happy: Sunoco is still upset about Shell's move into this sport (in which Sunoco is paying NASCAR for "official fuel" sponsorship rights) and is considering legal action against Shell to force it to take down all those Kevin Harvick banners at its 15,000 service stations.(Winston Salem Journal), Pennzoil/Shell sponsor's Harvick's #29 Richard Childress Chevy.(3-18-2007)

Next thing you know someone will want to take the Little Debbie Schrader cutouts away...

Oh, and if any of you can get me one of those???

I think we ought to sue Sunoco for false advertising. The commercial with Kasey where they say "you can't take Kasey to dinner, but you can buy his fuel"? Well, I can't buy Sunoco here in Texas --- false advertising! LOL

I agree, TRL!

Sunoco should also stop calling it "race fuel".
"Race Fuel" contains two things not found in Sunoco, tetra ethyl lead and high octane.

the new unleaded fuel is actually 98 or 102 octane i believe, upposed to the 110 leaded.

becuasse, as you know, a large quantity of the races this year are sans lead.

Do you guys have Exxon or Mobil gas stations? If so, its same as Sunoco. All the Mobil stations here have been changed to Sunoco's...But its all under the same company that gave its outgoing CEO a $300 million dollar bonus when he retired last year....

After ConocoPhillips abandoned Northeastern marketing of the Mobil brand name in the Washington area, Sunoco purchased these rights, and has since been converting Maryland and Virginia Mobil stations to the Sunoco brand, bringing the A-Plus convenience store with them (These stations before had convenience stores under the Circle K or On the Run brand). Most of the conversions done so far have been in Virginia.

Yes, we have both of those. I don't trade at either, as their fuel prices are typically higher than others in our area. Plus, I have to buy diesel and it's about 20-30 cents higher than regular unleaded gasoline.

The commercial says YOU can BUY his fuel.......It doesn't say where.;)

Today, it's all about protecting your money, and that means having as many lawyers as you can to see if anyone is infringing on what you believe is yours. Sort of like, this is my turf and you stay off it. I read today where the original contract with NASCAR and Nextel specifically mentioned Motorola and that was a couple of years ago, so it shouldn't be a surprise to those people that Nextel is having a problem with them. What is a big problem with me in all of this is that it's going to come down to the courts deciding on what can and can't be shown on a car. AT&T has a suit now and I don't think that it will be long before SUNOCO does the same, or maybe Shell. It's crazy, but we have no one to blame than NASCAR. Trying to get as much as they can and possibly crossing the lines here and there. But then again, this isn't anything new with NASCAR.

Who are the crew chiefs for shell and AT&T? I guess nascar will have to fine them a few grand. lol:bounce:

it'll be interesting to see what comes out of the AT&T law suit.....if they rule in the favor of AT&T, Sunoco should probably stop complaining because Shell will be the next to sue.

if nascar keeps this up....a lot of companies can become "offical whatever" of nascar.....and prevent many teams from having different sponsers.

this is VERY bad for the sport.

Actually, this isn't something new that NASCAR has done. It's only new that other companies are trying to change the rules. Of course, back in those days, the cost of running a team was a bit less and a sponsor could be fairly easy to find.

But the car with the big shell is in Daytona USA for the next year...so its going to be in the spot light for a good while

I agree. Sick to death of this sponsorship stuff.

If I were Shell, I'd put up new banners!

"Shell, proud sponsor of 2007 DAYTONA 500 WINNER KEVIN HARVICK!"
