Guess who is back in the championship hunt?

After the Chicagoland race, problems plagued several drivers in the hunt for the final Winston Cup championship (before it goes to Nextel) including our points leader Matt Kenseth and those problems paved the way for none other than Jeff Gordon to retake 2nd place from Dale Earnhardt Jr. We find ourselves in a pretty familiar spot, Jeff Gordon gaining ground in the second half of the season and a peek from the points lead, just 165 away. With several upcoming tracks like New Hampshire, Indianapolis, Watkins Glen, Bristol, Richmond and Kansas ( a few weeks later) all these tracks Jeff Gordon has seen so much success in and has recorded lots of wins, we have to ask ourselves, before the summer stretch is finished, will Jeff Gordon take the points lead. And if so, will he win that 5th Championship ?

I don't think so either....

Matt has just been SO consistent this year...

Sure Chicago is a hic-up, but those are bound to happen occasionally and even then he still placed 12th!. As long as he keeps posting top 10's and 5's like the first half, he'll be hard to beat...I just haven't seen any reason why the Dewalt team should not be able to keep that up.

I do look forward to a closer points race though...make Matt work for the Championship! Even better get 3-4 guys really close! Weee-haw! :)

Welcome aboard, Splunge! Glad to see another JJ fan! :)

On the subject, there are still too many races to go to decide this championship. There are several drivers that can conceivably take this championship, but as we know strange things can happen. ;)

I am way to undecided right now...but there Is a good possibilty that he would get it.

Way too much racing left to decide yet IMO.But jeff Gordon is leading the curcuit in laps led at 764 laps led in 12 races span,He's definitely showing some dominance & He's been there before,so it's very possible IMO.I was also thinking about Dale Earnhardt Jr. & Bobby Labonte in the race for the championship, but with Dale Jr. over -250 points back & Bobby at over -300 points off the leader I'm starting to think that it's really looking like a 2 driver race for the Cup,I could be wrong & hope I'm not being premature about it,but that's My opinion.
Matt Kenseth Whom's had such graet luck for most weeks,IMO us due to some real bad luck in the near future,I'm not wishing anything bad for the #17 team here, just IMO the law of averages will catch up with any team eventually!
As far as Jeff Gordon getting hot,I'm gonna put up a chart of His wins by month over His WC career, think U'll find it interesting,as follows:
Jeff Gordon's wins per month:
Month----------No. of Wins
Feb-------------5
Mar-------------8
Apr-------------5
May------------3
June-----------9
July------------4
August--------11
September---12
October-------3
November----2
______________
Grand Total--62

History doesn't always repeat. The Gordon we have now is most certainly not the Jeff that was winning 23 races per August/September in years past.A different point in time and his career. One win at this point in the season is good, yes. But Joe and Greg have that many and Ryan and Kurt have three times as many. The old Jeff Gordon just isn't around anymore. In fact,it's not impossible that Jr could even pass Jeff back for second place.NOT to say I would underestimate Jeff---he's still very, very good---but he will have to get better and Matt will have to get a lot worse.Sunday was a BAD day for Kenseth....and he still finished 12th.

Someone should email this thread to all the other drivers so they will know it's hopeless...think of how much they could save in gas and tires alone!!!

These seasons just seem to end earlier and earlier....

Oh well, there's always next season! ;)

ROTFLMAO!

When Jeffy is this close at this point of the season he can be scary. But, like 97 said, different times, different Jeffy, and he hasn't had his share of bad luck this season either. Hopefully we won't know until Homestead. I hope its a three or four horse race when we get there. B)

I make one little remark that Jr could pass Jeff back and you are suddenly very agreeable Bowtie!Maybe I should do that more often.....unfortunately I just---uh--lumped Jr and Gordon fans together in another post! Glad you posted this before you saw that! :p

P.S...this is what Happy calls 'threadjacking' you know!! :XXROFL:
:p :D

Yeah, I forgot about that one. So I brought it back to the top for you. :lol2:

If you're going to threadjack something, at least add a purpose behind it. I've seen Kurt Busch fans here in Nevada, they're not as rowdy as this. I guess 97forever is kinda a lil strange after Chicagoland. Anyways back to the topic, I still think Gordon is back in championship form, and yes I think Jeff is just as competitive as any driver to win 5 or 6 races a season and I think it'll show in the second half.

I'm always a little strange Happy,Chicago has nothing to do with it.You introduced the term threadjacking...the rest of us are just kickin' around having a little fun.Nothing to offend you was meant.Lighten' up and kick back.

Well if you basically threadjack every damn other thread I posted. Hell, this thread is only for the discussion of Jeff Gordon and that championship run and you turn it into a ******* laughhouse. Would you like it if I did it to your threads ?

Honestly?I could care less....this thread has gotten more responses from our goofing off than from your topic of discussion. If I start a thread...I dont care what people say on it.It's their right to post what they wish.

Listen, I'm not like you, I dont goof around and turn threads into jokes. I care what people say on my threads OK !?! And frankly I dont like your goofing around on this thread.

Then sue me kid..write your congressman.I dont give the foggiest notion what you like in 'your' thread or not.Put anything you want in what I post...it all becomes property of the board anyway.

p.s...attempt to argue better than this,kid...Whizzer would laugh at you. ;)
