Now that the 2009 season is over, let's discuss some of the surprises and disappointments of the season.

Surprises:
Mark Martin, stay in the title contention as long as he did. I expected him to make the Chase, but I thought that would be it for him. If not for the Talladega wreck, we might have seen a different outcome today.

Joey Logano, considering his start. Many people said he had no business being in a Cup car. He ran quite well once they started going to tracks the second time.

Juan Pablo Montoya, for his late season run and strong run in the early stages Chase. It seemed as if he came from nowhere to put himself into the Chase and was a force the first few weeks.

David Reuitimann for his consistancy and almost making the Chase.

Disappointments:
Carl Edwards for not winning a race all year. Maybe he needs to look at cutting back on NNS races.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. for such an awful season.

RCR for not being in contention for anything until Childress made the right changes at season's end and them cutting the front clips off all their new cars.

Suprises... Kurt Busch and Juan Montoya.

Disappointments... Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick

Just like I tried to tell everyone. But no one wanted to listen lol.

Surprises would be Carl Edwards not winning this year. I thought for sure after last season he would.

Also I'd say Kyle not making the chase was a shocker also.

Disappointments would be my boy Jr not getting a win again this season. :(

I was surprised at the consistency of Ambrose and how far he has come in his first full year of Cup. I was also surprised at how well Mark did the entire season. Disappointments were Jr., Matt Kenseth and it was hard to believe that Kyle didn't make the Chase.

I'm just going to add something not mentioned as I agree with everything posted so far...

Brian Vickers for a strong season and making the chase as well as getting Red Bull Racing their first win.

I'll give both a suprise and a disappointment to Tony Stewart. Out of the box, everyone was surprised how well this team ran. But then, they just fell apart after the chase started....disappointment.

I'll agree with everything here, though Logano wasn't such a surprise. But I was expecting Robby Gordon to come up to par like Reutimann did (I knew somebody at MWR would improve after they cut the 3rd car).

Surprises

Stewart racing getting both Cars in the Chase and winning races.
Marcus Ambrose improving for the most part over the season.
Kasey Kahne making the chase despite the mess at him team.

Disappointments

Carl Edwards not winning one single race.
Greg Biffle: See Carl Edwards
RCR not getting one win or making the chase.

Surprises:
Stewart-Haas Racing being so strong in their first year.
Montoya for having a strong bid for the Championship without a win.
Ambrose for showing how far he's come, and nearly winning a couple races. I'd like to see what he could do in a HMS car.
Mark Martin for a lot of reasons: 5 wins, 7 poles, passed 400 career top-10s, 1000 career starts.

Disappointments:
Dale Jr for having such an awful season.
Edwards without a win.
RCR going the entire season without a win.
Kyle Busch for imploding over the Summer and missing the Chase.

surprises for me:
Mark Martin, man he was on a roll this season...
JPM, good run in the 42 for Earnhardt Gnassi, keep it goin...
Keselowski, Talladega was awesome, his Nationwide campaign was awesome, it's a shame he won't be back in the Jr Motorsports car again next season...

disappointments:
Dale Jr, this year had to be his 2nd worse ever...
Martin Truex
Kyle Busch, man I am real upset he wasn't better this season than he was last...

Disappointments would be my boy Jr not getting a win again this season. :(

Don't you mean Jr for not finnishing a race without a torn up car?

I can't believe how horrible he was this season.

He finished some without one...

just not many :(

Gosh man I just hope he can do something next season. Idk maybe he can't do good at HMS. Kyle wasn't that great there and now he tears it up with Gibbs. Maybe Jr just needs another team...who knows..

Maybe RCR..But they did suck this year...

I was surprised at the consistency of Ambrose and how far he has come in his first full year of Cup.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I am very impressed with Amborse and his abilities on ovals rather than just road courses. Kudos to the team for a job well done this year.

Dissapointment - Jr.!! He said it best in the beginning of the year when he said that now he has top notch equipement so if he fails it is the driver not the equipement...nuff said!!

I will replace the word 'dissapointment' with "surprise".

kyle not making the Chase was not a dissapointment to me, however, it was probably the biggest surprise of the year.

biggest disappointment: Brian France didn't get fired, and Jimmy Johnson won another title, the COT COF what ever

biggest suprise: nobody kicked Kyle Bush's ass

Biggest surprise: No wins for Flipper

Sorry, I'm not surprised by Montoya's performance... he's just that good. Same with Mark.

Biggest disappointment: JJ winning again:rolleyes:

Biggest Surprise: Brian Vickers racing his hind end off to get into the Chase.
Biggest Disappointment: Brian Vickers and the #83 team completely crapping the bed once they made the Chase.

I think you're the only one that didn't see that coming.:D

I think you guys are being too hard on Vickers. Here's a team that a couple of years ago missed 1/3 of the races and this year won a race and made the chase. If anything the biggest disappointment has to be Carl Edwards who won 9 races and didn't win one race this year, whom I might remind you finished 11th in points just ahead of Vickers.

Surprises:
I never would have thought Tony and Newman would be in the chase, especially as first year teams.
Ambrose, he shows the heart, desire and talent. Keep him in good equipment and he'll be champ very soon

Disapointments:
Jr, I'm almost at a loss for words. A couple come to mind however, "dismal failure". Teammates finish 1-2-3 and he's 25th????
What happened to Roush? ( I'm not a Furd fan either)
RCR playing dead until the last 4-5 races

Biggest disapointments:
Mark for finishing second AGAIN
JJ for winning AGAIN
