For me, that is. Since the chase is 10 races, I was wondering who has been running the most consistant over the previous 10.

Points scored since Kentucky.

Keselowski - 378
Kahne - 363
Gordon- 362
Truex Jr - 342
Bowyer- 329
Biffle- 329
Hamlin- 327
Dale Jr- 320
Jimmie- 309
Harvick- 309
Kenseth- 301
Tony- 277

What does all this mean? Who knows, but perhaps the rest of the field should be worried about Tony.

Truex and Boyer have been impressive.

Kahne and Gordon surprised me too, but Keselowski has been stellar. Even after being turned into the wall at one of his best tracks and finishing 30th, he scored the most points. 9 top tens, with a win, a pair of 2nds and a 3rd. He's right there. If Penske can step it up, he may have a legitimate shot as the only full season Dodge driver in the field. That's pretty amazing, no matter who your favorite driver is.

For some reason I think that if Bad Brad had been 8th or 9th on that list it would not have been posted, by FB anyway.

Last year the 24 team was on fire coming into The Chase then fell flat. while the 14 did the opposite. It makes it difficult to predict what's going to transpire.

Well we all know the next 10 races are on tracks that have been raced on already this season! What if we took the results of those 10 races and figures out who was going to win the chase?

8 of 10 have been raced on already. You can do the rest.

And yet half the people in the chase game pick Kasey to be worse for the race.

The chase spells pressure, from the driver down to the tyre pressure man.Anything can happen from here on in I believe.

Stats? Do they really mean anything? Sometimes yes, many times no.

Here's some more numbers to chew on. 11.6 & 6.3, 0 & 5

11.6 - The average finishing position of 2012 NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart over the 10 races leading up to the Chase last year.

0 - The number of wins of 2012 NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart over the 10 races leading up to the Chase last year.

6.3 - The average finishing position of 2012 NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart over the 10 races making up the Chase last year.

5 - The number of wins of 2012 NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart over the 10 races making up the Chase last year.

All I'm saying is that the last 10 don't dictate anything.

Average finish over the last 45 days.

1. Brad K 8.14
2. Jeff 8.86
3. Martin 9.57
4. Greg 9.71
5. Clint 9.86
6. Marcos 10.43
7. Kasey 10.57
8. Kyle 11.86
9. Paul 12.43
10. Kevin 12.86
11. JJ 13,43
12 Mark 14.20
13. Denny 14.29
14 Jr 14.43
15. Sam 15.43
16. Ryan 15.86
17 Tony 17.00

20 Carl 18.71

It looks like Jeff's bad luck is behind him, finally.

I agree but I also believe that the last ten races got Jeff and Kasey into the chase.

Everyone seems to overlook the fact that Stewart HAD to win 5 races just to beat Carl's consistency by 1 point . In my mind , the consistency of a guy like Kenseth or Truex has better odds of winning a championship ,than a guy like Tony coming up with 5 wins again.

Okay , I wrote that before seeing the average finish chart , maybe Kenseth isn't the best example , but you can see what I mean.:D

Can you imagine what would happen if Boyer or Truex were to win the cup this year?

If someone goes winless to win the Championship I'm not quite sure why that would make it awesome. I look more at what Tony did last year as being awesome.

My question is , which do you think is the more likely scenerio ? Someone pulling off a Tony style bunch of victories ? Or someone pulling off a Carl type consistant run with few (if any ) wins .?

No doubt in my mind. I think you Carl scenario is more likely.

start a 'how many wins to be champ' thread. I'm sure we all have the answer.

So, you are saying another 'Tony Chase' is about to go down? I'm not buying what you're selling.
So there's no ground between 5 chase wins and zero? o_O

I was holding this for Teds thread, but here it is. With so many multiple winners in the chase, 3 wins and consistancy will get it done.

Tony's five run and Carl's scenario plus a win or two where the only options given. Yes, I think it would be done more like what was described for Carl.

Ok, I failed to properly decipher the meaning of 'a few (if any)'. :D
I always associate the word few with beer. I always start off just having a few and then it's the more I drink the more I drink. Thanks Blake.

I think two wins will do it.

Start the dang poll already. What do the masses think?

2 is a couple, not a few? o_O I know there's a loophole in there somewhere.....I wonder what it will be?

The stat is limited imo. With 10 races to go there was a different set of needs. Some guys simply needed more points than others or had a more urgent need.

The goal has been changed it is no longer to be p1 in the points for the regular season, it is to be in the top 10 with the most wins. Some like Stewart and Hamlin abandoned point racing hoping to get more wins.
That much is obvious but you would think folks were tricked with the number crunching. While this thread isn't about the worthiness of a chase title people still like to use their set of numbers to claim some one more worthy was cheated.

Sorry to go off topic, a pet peeve.

I'm sorry you don't find this thread interesting. I'll be sure to include some T&A next time. ;)
