Good read. From another source, something that Michael Waltrip says...
Waltrip, for one, sees no problem with dominant teams. Twenty-five years ago, he says, six cars dominated NASCAR. Now it’s four team owners. “Parity is the worst thing that ever happened to any sport, in my mind,”. I agree with that totally. While that makes for more competition, it takes away from bigger rivalries that could heighten fan interest. But the emphasis has to be on those rivalries rather than on the Chase points. The end of this past season had Carl Edwards against Jimmie Johnson and if the next season could be mainly focused on those two, with them dominating the series, then the series could get back to the old days of Petty vs. Pearson, or Allison vs. Yarborough, or Jeff Gordon vs. Earnhardt the senior. Today, it's split way too thin with so many people putting Jr. at the top, then there are those normal Gordon fans, Stewart fans, etc. Also, today's rivalies are between Hendrick and Roush and Gibbs, etc.
