ARDEN, N.C. -- Tim Sauter will be the latest member of the Wisconsin stock car racing family to make a connection with veteran NASCAR owner/driver Dave Marcis when Sauter attempts his Winston Cup debut this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Sauter, 37, a NASCAR Busch Series regular, will drive Marcis' No. 71 Marcis Auto Racing Chevrolet while Marcis' nephew Rob Marcis serves as crew chief.

There are 48 entries for 43 starting positions in Saturday night's $4,598,287 Sharpie 500, the 24th of 36 Winston Cup races this season.

Earlier this season, Marcis fielded cars for family patriarch Jim Sauter at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and for Tim's older brother Jay, who also races in the Busch Series. Jay Sauter made his Winston Cup debut at Texas Motor Speedway in April and finished 37th.

It is great how Dave is giving all these young drivers their first Winston Cup ride. I hope the #71 makes the field.

Best of luck to them in making the show, Marcis's team is always a welcome addition.

Thanks Bill......was so excited I didn't even check the board before I started another thread.....Ok, got rid of it....anyways...

Tim is also entered in the Busch race with the Mac Tools/AP Perfomance #19. Wonder who is going to be on the hood????

Tim is the 1999 ASA Champ who's best Busch finish is 9th (Bristol, 10th at Daytona) in his aborted rookie season. The kid obviously knows his way around a shortie, and might be just the guy to bring MAR back to the top.

Back to the top? Did I say that? Had no idea I was nearly so optimistic.....or old.....

Just hoping he can get the car in the race and keep it off the wall. Well yea, a lead lap finish would be nice but the chances of that happening are pretty much next to none. Just making the race on time is gonna be tough enuf (44th in points) and the only team above the 71 out of provs is Hut Stricklin.

And even tho Rob is listed as chief, I would imagine that Dave (along with as many Sauters as can make it) will be hanging close by.

Anyways, The Backyard Boys are at it again. Go get em Tim!!!!
:D :D :D :D :leap:
