I dont know how many of you read articles on nascar.com, but you should check this one out.

some verry intresting things.

From article:

Mike0769: It is very embarrassing. I am a Jr fan. I was upset, but understand the consequences if they did a one-lap shootout. It is clearly for safety. I am not a Gordon fan, but he deserved some respect. It makes the other Jr fans look bad.

We should respect all drivers even if we don't like them. Throwing litter on the track is not going to change NASCAR's mind, but it will someday prevent us from taking stuff into the stands. Jr. didn't seem real angry about Gordon winning, he was having fun. Why can't us fans respect the drivers and have fun and walk away with a 'Well, he tried.'?

I went to the Texas race, and they wouldn't have allowed it. People don't realize that if Gordon's car got damaged it would have cost lots of money to fix it. I was truly disappointed at the Jr fans and non-Jr fans yesterday.

hartnbr99: I spent a large amount of money to attend the race at Talladega for the first time. It will also be my last time. I went to this race with a Jeff Gordon fan wearing a Gordon T-Shirt.

In addition to seeing the ridiculous trash flying onto the track we got covered in beer and ice and water dumped from the top of the stands as we were leaving. I don't know if any of you have been hit by flying ice and beer cans from two stories up but it hurts pretty bad. I won't ever step foot anywhere near that track again.

yeah, at the nashville race, there was a whole lot of ice chest dumping going on up in the stands...MaBelle and I managed to get sprinkled on a little bit as we left. It wasn't even done in anger, it was just that people who were willing to carry a loaded coolr UP the stands weren't willing to carry the same (and lesser) water weight DOWN the stands...the ice had served the purpose of keeping whatever it was they had cold...and now they didn't feel like respecting the people under them...thanks race fans...and that was at a small track like Nashville at a busch race...I can only imagine dega at cup.

I can't condone the throwing of anything on the track at anytime, for any reason.

esorlxaw, Michigan is one of the worst about people dumping their icechests.

Only idiots would domp a cooler like that. Do you know what 3 or 4 gal. of water could do to a person if it hit someone. :(

They have been dumping coolers in the stands forever, The first time I went to Talladega in 1991 I got dumped on. The people in the stands don't think about all the people underneath them when the race is over.

Water falling from distance hits like a rock. It could break a neck even a back. The people that dump water are idiots and there are a few choice words I could say but I wont.

Dumping out the ice chests or throwing ice & beer cans at people? I've been going to Michigan for a quite a few years now and will agree that you don't want to walk under the stands after the race is over, but I have never seen or heard about a problem with people throwing things at other people or even had someone giving me crap about my favorite driver. The only comments made to me have been good natured ribbing. One year, the handle on my cooler broke off and my beers & ice were rolling all over the place. You heard a collective 'oh man' from the crowd and I had several people helping me gather up my beer and ice.

A new precedence has been set.

Tracks will now be under more pressure to make sure the same thing doesn't happen at their track and to ensure spectator and driver safety.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of people in the near future will 'get' to watch the race from the parking lot after being escorted out.

I sure hope some of you are watching Track Side right now.............and I hope even more the beer can throwers at Talladega last week are watching. There was a very good and logical explanation as to why the race could not be restarted. It was almost entirely due to the "no racing back to the flag" rule (which everyone agrees is a good rule.........well, everyone who is safety conscious, anyway). The fans throwing s*** on the track is inexcusable..........but to blame NASCAR or anyone else for the situation is ridiculas. Maybe once fans get educated, it'll change. Geeze, DW is the one that made it the most clear to me...........who'd thunk that?!!
