Talladega Reducing Seating Too..

Once at 147,000 going down to 80,000 :(

Declining attendance is affecting several sports but none moreso than NASCAR.

147,000 * 150 = 22,050,000

80,000 * 150 = 12,000,000

147,000 * 85 = 12,495,000

Uh, yea.

Restrictor seat racing, here we come! Just be happy Brian didn't put a tapered spacer on those seats.

I don't understand why people here really care much about this? Less people want to see NASCAR these days, and tracks are responding. Isn't that a good thing?
Higher ticket prices for those who still can and want to go. Superstretch seating at Daytona isn't the best but it sure is affordable. I know DIS and ISC have been promising costs won't rise in 2016 when the renovation project is done and capacity is about 2/3 of what it is now, but anyone with a clue knows that won't hold to be true.

the cost of attending a nascar race keeps rising and you are getting nothing in return. It's the same race, camp site that you have been going to for years. It's not worth the money anymore. you can stay home and have everyone over for race day for a lot less.

Throw out any numbers that you'd like but attendance is important to this series. You're only fooling yourself thinking otherwise. It's no secret that the tracks make more off of the television contract but attendance is not chump change. This sport will not thrive without the fans in attendance, period.

The price of tickets is just one part of the equation. Unless you live down the street from the track you're going to have expenses. Gas, tolls, and food on the road. Lodging at or near the event is the real killer. Look at the price of a room today in Daytona, then the same room during speed weeks. OUCH!

Driving a RV might save you on lodging but gas/diesel is a killer.

It's better for TV......now the stands will look full and NASCAR and their broadcast stooges can fool themselves into thinking attendance is up.

Attendance isn't important anymore.

Andy's been on some sort of kick recently where the paying fan doesn't matter to the sport. I don't quite understand it but it's a point he's been trying to make. I simply disagree with that line of thinking.

How about, improve the sport so the people watching on television actually want to go to races? It's a pretty ****** pathetic state the series is in when fans want to go to races because of casinos, nightlife in the area and what kind of things you can do around the track.

When fans say they won't go to a racetrack because there's nothing to do in the area, that should worry NASCAR. That means the paying fans aren't showing up for the race.

NASCAR needs to look at dirt racing to see how it's done. Get rid of the countless hours of practice. Give the teams one practice session, qualifying, heat races (which I think is going to happen in 2015) and the race. And for the love of all things holy, cram it all in to a two day show - that way fans aren't spending an entire day and a half wondering what they can do away from the racetrack.

And no, the Nationwide and Truck companion races aren't the answer. Unless they're a full-on ban on Cup drivers competing in those races.

no way is nascar going to have big money teams sitting in the garage when other teams or racing for points.

How about just you keep going to the races. I've got 0 problems watching it at home.

I will. I enjoy real racing. I saw some great races this year. UARA at Lonesome Pine and Tri-County were exceptional, PASS is always a good show, the Hampton Heat 200 was excellent, the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 was legendary, the Thanksgiving Classic was incredible, the Myrtle Beach 400 was thrilling and The Only Race in the Chase was awesome.

How were the Texas 500, Kansas 400, Pocono 400 and Michigan 400?

I like the idea of shortening the amount of practice. I think it would offer up better racing. It might give some odd ball car the opportunity to run really well with the luck of being more dialed in than some of the traditional front runners.

Agreed. Shorten practice and reinstate the testing ban.

Damn Tootin.

Fans are a walking lawsuit, and insurance rates are based on capacity, so lower your overhead and maintenance and take out seats that aren't being used anyway.
