TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Talladega Superspeedway has permanently banned 14 fans from buying tickets at the speedway following their arrests Sunday for throwing objects on the track after Jeff Gordon's victory in the Aaron's 499.

The fans were charged with disorderly conduct Sunday and posted bond at the track's jail facilities, Talladega County Sheriff Jerry Studdard said. Track officials can't prevent the 14 fans from buying tickets through a third party.

A number of fans began throwing beer cans after Gordon won the race under caution, passing the late Dale Earnhardt — a Talladega favorite — in career wins.

Talladega officials had issued warnings before the race that fans caught throwing objects over the fence separating the grandstands from the track would be arrested.

Superspeedway president Grant Lynch said identifying other fans who threw objects was harder than he had imagined.

I hope the track posts a "Wall Of Shame" with these fool's pictures and makes each and every tichet taker memorize it.

If they cant stop them from getting tickets from a 3rd party then they have not solved anything....

I wonder if they do get a ticket from a 3rd party and are then caught doing something else stupid at the track if they can be charged with trespassing. That could carry a harsher sentence than what they got this time.
And, if it can be determined who they got the tickets from I wonder if they'll be in trouble too.

I think they should be charged with ASSAULT! I also hope that the true fans will turn in (snitch) on those ba$&ARds when (we know it will) it happens at other tracks.

Oh, My! Such a stiff penalty!

I am sure those fans are just wringing their hands at home thinking about how ashamed they are!

YEAH RIGHT!

They need to have their asses locked up for a week. But before that, they should have been made to stay for the next two days and pick up trash at the track with no wages for it.

This is an assault in an indirect way. Throwing objects at a race car.

What if the driver WAS injured in some way? Would the fine be stiffer?

Why do we have to wait for something like that to happen. Deter the behavior now by making it as uncomfotable as possible for these jerk-offs that like to express themselves by throwing objects. If you miss a week of work from your job, tough ****!

Banning them has accomplished nothing. It is a joke.

I agree with you.

Yeh Guido! Community Service...and make sure they scrub down the restrooms with toothbrushes!

NASCAR should ban them from attending any NASCAR sanctioned events.
ISC should automatically ban them from their facilities for all events.

At least it's a start.

It will accomplish nothing.

It is like "feel good" legislation. Make some sort of decision even if it is worthless.

It will happen again.

If Gordon ever wins 8 championships, there will probably be a full scale riot.

It's kind of hard to control those actions. Threatening ticket bans would work, the only thing is that you could buy tickets from someone else and no one would know.

Caution: Idiots ahead

The Neanderthal mouth-breathers who turned the finish of Sunday’s Talladega Superspeedway race into a embarrassing farce must be stopped.

Have you ever been driving on the interstate at 65 miles per hour and had your windshield hit with a nearly-full beer can? Probably not. But imagine the possible results.

And it’s not enough that the Talladega cretins put drivers and officials at risk. Some of them no doubt were so drunk that their tosses fell far short of the target, landing in the grandstands. If I had been plunked in the head by one of those, I’d be filing lawsuits against everybody in sight.

This is simply senseless behavior by people who have been raised poorly and, in fact, might be married to their first cousins.

How do we stop it? We probably can’t, entirely. But speedways — particularly those hosting races likely to be won by Hendrick Motorsports drivers in general and Jeff Gordon in particular — must bear the responsibility for enforcement within their gates. Security must be increased dramatically. Put more uniformed officers in the stands. It’s not realistic to put one on every row, obviously, but a more visible presence will make idiots think twice before acting on their darker impulses.

Once identified and convicted, these goobers should be banned from the speedway for life.

Pro wrestling would be embarrassed to have these folks in its fan base.

Our local news reported tonight that Bristol Motor Speedway will support Talledega in banning the fans that was arrested for throwing cans. They said none of them were in their data base as ticket holders but they will not be allowed to buy tickets there.

Talladega president wants other tracks to ban 12 fans

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) -- Talladega Superspeedway President Grant Lynch said Wednesday he has asked other NASCAR facilities to ban a dozen fans arrested for throwing objects onto the track, and at least one track quickly did so.

Talladega has already barred those fans from buying tickets for future events at the Superspeedway for their behavior following Jeff Gordon's victory at the Aaron's 499 on Sunday.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager Chris Powell said Wednesday those fans would also not be allowed to buy tickets for any event at his track.

"There is absolutely no place in our sport for that kind of behavior," Powell said. "First and foremost, it is a safety issue. Secondly, it reflects poorly on our sport and the millions of great racing fans across the country to have a few people act the way these individuals did on Sunday."

Two other fans were also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Sunday at Talladega, but weren't identified as throwing objects, Lynch said.

He said the 12 fans were released from jail on $500 bond and several have already pleaded guilty.

Six were from Alabama, four from Georgia, one from Florida and one from North Carolina.

Lynch said track officials are also working with lawyers to find ways to make sure the 12 fans "do not commit these acts again on Talladega Superspeedway property."

"We care about our fans and our racetrack and feel it is in the best interest of both if these individuals are not allowed on our facility for all future events," he said.

NASCAR officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Lynch's request to other tracks.

Talladega officials warned fans before the race that anyone caught throwing objects over the fence would be arrested.

A number of fans ignored the warnings after Gordon won the race under caution to pass the late Dale Earnhardt in career wins.

Yeh i agree it is feel good legislation at its best. I'm not sure there is anyway that you cans stop fans from throwing stuff at the end of a race. Might as well live with it and accept it, still doesn't make it right, but other than banning beer at races (yikes did i just say that?) i see no other way to stop it.

Of course there's no way to stop it. There's no way to completely stop any stupid behaviour but there is a more than one way to deter it.

I don't think that inoccent people - which includes children/elderly - being hit with full cans of beer is something we might as well live with.

They are taking the proper steps to attempt to curb this idiotic behavior by using the Talladega-14 as an example.
Hopefully extra security in the grandstands will be able to spot and arrest anyone else that decides to throw junk on the track.
Taking away the beer is not the answer, these type of morons will only resort to throwing soda containers or whatever else they may have. The racetracks make way too much money selling beer and other refreshments to stop selling them.
It's up to the rest of us in the grandstands to point out the idiots that throw things on the track. I understand that there are more idiots than security can deal with but there has to be some kind of a deterrent.
There will always be jerks in the crowd.

Hey look just because you know I'll be going to LMS that's no way to talk...oh he didn't mean me...are you sure?...well ok then...carry on... ;)

NO coolers or backpacks, beverages to be purchased Only at the concession stands at the track, plastic cups only.

(I can't believe I said that)

The ISC tracks make you have a clear backpack. Bruton's tracks are not as strict. And any cooler goes just as long as it is not over 16 or 18" at Bruton's tracks.
