Tandem-drafting addressed by technical changes

5 gallon cooling system will now be 2 gallons? I sure hope they did their math right.

On an exceptionally warm day at Daytona, nascar held their first steam engine race.
 
Radiator capacity reduced to 2 gallons down from 5. Not the complete cooling system capacity.

Can't wait for the race of the Steamers in July though.

My bad. I wasn't very clear saying it like that. Block, hoses and overflow are part of the system, but the radiator does the cooling. Coolant capacity will probably be 5 gallons or more.

It just seems like a huge change, along with repositioning the air inlet. These new systems may make even the train impossible, because you need to be close enough to the car in front to get pulled along. Who knows how it will work out. I just hope NASCAR hasn't gotten too heavy handed because they want to be sure they kill the pod racing.

True enough but they also reduced the overflow tank down to a maximum capacity of ½ gallon. This is all posted in the thread on this same subject that I posted yesterday.

So this is why everybody is calling it a steam train? I see now. Smaller overflow, quicker blow off. WOW. THIS IS GOING TO BE EXCITING!!!!

Maybe they are doing it as a tribute to Lionel. :pbjtime:
 
With the radiator cut down to 2 gals and the 1/2 overflow the total cooling capacity is going to be 4 to 4 1/2 gallons depending on manufacturer. Wont be as much tape which means even less front downforce :( but at least with the air inlet moved up debris should'nt cover it as easily.

Another futile attempt to change perfectly good Nascar racing into something Nascar fans think that they want ...only to find out next year that the liked it better the old way . Take a break Nascar , you can't please all of the people all of the time.What you are actually doing is continuing to drive up the cost of participating . The haves will spend a bunch of money adapting to the changes while the have nots will fall farther behind . Why is it better to have Jimmy Johnson win the 2012 races than Trevor Bayne ?
 
Well if you need a Really good C&R Aluminum radiator there should a bunch coming up for sale soon, there about $400-500 new.
 
12 gauge slugs. Contact with the rear bumper blows the front end off the car that bumped. :beerbang::beerbang::beerbang:

Maybe a secondary oil tank with a mister attached to the chassis? Everytime someone rams the rear bumper of another car, a bit of oil from the lead car is sprayed in the path of the second car!
 
To be sure the 2 car draft comes to an end, the new radiators will be mounted to the front bumper.
 
I hope the tandem racing goes away. I dont like it, its boring.
 
Better than the shotgun slugs,,claymores on the rear bumper activated by the driver. :beerbang:
