Has anyone been fortunate enough to play Taps at a funeral? I did so once when I was in high school for a local funeral. Little did I know that when I would later join the Air Force, I would become a member of the Lackland AFB Drum and Bugle Corp and about every other night at 9:00, get up on the dumpster and play Taps for the entire base.

I have been hearing that the playing of Taps at military funerals are getting rarer and rarer. This is truely sad. :(

I have never tried to play a bugle. So if I tried to play Taps I would get drumed out of the :D corp.

The modern bugle is a cross between a trumpet and the old bugle. There is one valve and a slide. If you ever get a chance to watch a drum corp perform, do it. They are quite good to watch and listen to.

I saw a thing on NBC Nightly News that there are lesser and lesser buglers available for Military funerals.

About 1000 veterans die everyday yet there are only 500 military buglers around the country able to meet the demand. It's truly truly sad.
