Target/Chip Ganassi Racing will have two cars in the Indy Racing League starting in the 2003 season. Scott Dixon will move over with Chip Ganassi Racing to IRL from CART. Tomas Scheckter will be in the other car and will hopefully not crash out every other race.

I wonder what happens to Jeff Ward ? Also, I wonder why he's only fielding two cars after he was supposed to have three for sure, possibly four. IRL2Day announced a few months ago that he was going to have four cars and then the next day I started hearing three. (sigh) I just can't keep up with Mr. Ganassi!!

Jeff who? Oh, that American driver that once competed in a series devoted to giving America's sprint car drivers a shot in a big time open wheel car.

Those days are long gone. Say goodbye to the Beechlers and Fishers and Wards of the racing world...

I think Floyd is still toying with the idea of running 1 car in CART. I wouldn't suprised to see him announce that he'll run a 3rd IRL car sometime in the future though either...depends on how much Toyota wants to lean on Floyd.

That's the thing that gets me, he already had said that he was. Until now I never read anything on that changing.

Honestly PG, there's a lot of people out there keeping their cards close to their chest right now... at least until some things get resolved/announced publicly.

Team owners are in a difficult position in that they need to meet the demands of their sponsors (or find new ones), need to try balancing what Toyota (or Honda) want from them...

I wonder how happy Floyd is with Toyota and Penske's close relationship. It looks to me like Penske is getting what looks to be preferential treatment from Toyota. You have to wonder, who the factory team really is? Don't forget that TCGR put Toyota on the map...I know Floyd hasn't...

All of this might lead Floyd to keep a team in CART...which gives him a little more flexibility for the future.

WindCity don't you mean Chip. I also think Chip is going to keep one car in CART (maybe with Kenny Brack or Bruno Junqueira).

LOL..."Floyd" is Chip Ganassi's first name.

His actual name is Floyd Ganassi...

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that Floyd was Chip Ganassi's real first name. I wonder why he changed it???

Thankyou i was wondering who the heck you were talking about!!!

That's possible, but I haven't seen it. I also haven't seen much of anything since the season ended. My friend that works on the team has been busy as heck with all the testing they've been doing so I haven't gotten a chance to see what's been going on. All I know is what little I've read and that is that both Penske and Ganassi did some testing at INDY. I talked briefly with my friend last weekend and while he didn't tell me not to tell, I also haven't seen any mention of it, but it seems Toyota has some tweaking to do. The motor didn't go the distance at INDY. It ran well, but it didn't have the endurance it needs.

Penske was the first to put mileage on Toyota's new IRL engine...

You think Floyd's been happy about that? I don't. He's been Toyota's factory team in CART since 2000...and gave Toyota their first win...

Penske was THE #1 enemy for those 2 years...for both Toyota and Ganassi.

As far as the motor goes...I wouldn't worry one bit. Its waaaaay early in the testing game. Toyota is going to throw more resources at this than you can imagine.

I'd go out on a limb right now and predict that a Yoda powered car will win the Indy 500. That is their goal...the championship means little in comparison.

Hell, if my name was Floyd Ganassi.. I'd wanna change it too!! :p
