Target leaving NASCAR

Interesting section from the link below.....

THE EYE OF THE STORM: Larson has generated enough on-air TV time that Nielsen says that for the first time since the inception of its Sport24 program, fellow NASCAR team sponsor Lowe’s was surpassed by another brand -- in this case Target -- as the most valuable primary sponsor at the midway point of the season. The data indicates that Target and Larson had the highest Q1 media equivalency value at $111M through Sonoma, or $25M in quality media equivalency. Lauletta this morning said, “We’re positioned (to deal with the transition) really strongly by the on-track performance that we’ve been delivering lately, and also what we do for brands and partners off the track.” The team said that it already has a multirace sponsor for this season that is new to both the team and sport that it will be introducing in the coming weeks. Though the precise term is unknown, Larson is still under a long-term contract with the team after this season.

No Target colors on a Ganassi car, it's going to take some time to get used to.

I wonder if GE will step into NASCAR as a primary sponsor? Would be interesting to see. They are already growing into the IndyCar scene with Dixon.

New to the team...Amazon was a big rumor for a while, it'd be good to see that actually come to fruition.

Only opens 5-10 races? Figured they would have had way more than that.

yep kickball is the next greatest thing. Much safer game for the youngsters to play on up.

No brainer really. Racing vs Soccer... one's a real sport that kids can get into from a young age, it's cheap to do, keeps them fit and healthy, and a young, diverse fanbase to support the most popular game in the world. The other is little more than an expensive hobby for the entertainment of a fanbase of aging white males (some/many would call them "deplorables" or "Rednecks"), with little to no mainstream appeal at the local level and a horrendously poor ROI at the top level. You're a new CEO or marketing manager at a company who's entire business model is under siege and you need to make every penny count, where do you put your bullseye?

Well this isn't a surprise but it sure does suck. End of an era. I'm wondering what this means for Target partners who also appear on the car.

As big a deal as youth soccer is in this country, I'm amazed that professional soccer doesn't have more of a following.

MLS seems to be blowing up right now. Fastest growing sport in the country afaik.

It does, and continues to be on the rise.

Mexico and the United States topped the charts last week as the CONCACAF Gold Cup Group Stage concluded. Mexico’s matches averaged 3.189 million viewers between both FOX’s and Univision’s networks, beating all other nations by a huge margin. Unsurprisingly, the United States saw the second-highest average viewership at 1.923 million. Overall, Univision averaged 1.1 million viewers throughout the group stage while FOX Sports averaged just over 300k viewers.

Yeah, I think as these youth soccer players get older, the following will continue to grow. Personally, I'd rather read the Privacy Policy from my insurance company than watch a soccer game, but it does seem to be gaining momentum.

First of all I think soccer is worst sport. I have other opinions on it that would cause controversy. Finally I hope for NASCAR that it is Amazon getting involved.

Id love for amazon to come over.

They need to goon it up a bit, call it field hockey, Americans will eat it up.

I remember last year when Target's stated reason for reducing sponsorship of the #42 was that Kyle Larson is such a great draw that they wanted to give other companies a chance to be represented by him. I guess that generous spirit continues to grow.

Well, I'm not going to co-sign the tone, but there is some truth in there. Looking at raw numbers, it kinda is a no-brainer if it's a binary choice and those are the options.

At one time it was commonly stated that NASCAR fans had a very high level of brand loyalty to companies that sponsored the sport. I am guessing that a lot of this has eroded, and that is another factor in why Target, Home Depot, et al. did not believe they were getting sufficient ROI.

After someting like twenty years sponsoring in Indycar, they left last year. BTW the sponsorship was on Chips Indycars. Might be why he already had spnsorship already lined up.

The positive news is that this will give other companies a golden opportunity

I'm not sure what part of my post provoked your ire. Your response makes little sense, I'm aware of all that information, thanks anyway.

this might be it.;) It was a mutual agreement, they curtailed completely their sponsorship in Indy last year, but kept some sponsorship rights to the 42. Common practice when they change management. FWIW

The arrangement, a mutual decision between team and sponsor, is “to allow other companies to work with” Larson, who will be competing in his fourth full-time season in the

we knew target was leaving, why is this even a surprise its frankly old news. Further Target's stance on bathrooms and telling CCW holders they are not welcome. Frankly they were not a fit for nascar anymore in light of that.

It was a lighthearted joke. The press releases at the time did claim that the reduction was to allow Ganassi to use other sponsors. It actually makes slightly more sense now if their plan to exit after 2017 was known all along.

I would rather hit on my you know whats with a rubber mallet than watch soccer.
