TBR closing the doors

Always sad to see teams close their doors.

So much was going on with Toy State jumping on and everything else, but it was not enough to save the team. I wish the best for the employees looking for work, it really sucks for them to be out of work. I hope Levine and Circle Sport will have room for these gentlemen and ladies.

I dunno why, but I always thought Tommy was a class act.
Yeah, I had hoped for the 7 team to be better this year. Without much money, without solid sponsorship, and without performing on the track, this is the inevitable result. At least Tommy has the proceeds from selling the charter, which is better than having nothing.

This is a bummer. One of my favorite underdog teams for sure. Had quite a few impressive RP races.

Slowly but surely this sport is dying. TBR and Leavine racing were a few of the competitive small teams we had left

Oh, stop.

TBR is somewhere around the 250th professional race team that decided to pack it in. They come and they go at every level. It has ever been thus.

I imagine Mr. Baldwin is well pleased with that charter system.

Well, that IS one reason the charter system was introduced.

I said last year that the charter system would lead to short fields. The closure of TBR may be one more step in that direction. We've rarely seen more than 40 cars attempting to qualify this season.

Awe crap, hate to see Tommy shut down. I don't think he started the team with this ending in mind. I can see the day coming where there might be 7 or 8 major teams.

The payout for the top 25 teams is what forced him to rent his charter and quit.

Financially, the sport is in as bad a shape as it's been in a very long time. Every team is struggling. There are currently 3 charters on the market from teams "more established" than TBR, and exactly zero buyers. There are also many different talks and meetings going on around potential mergers. As for the title sponsorship - Monster entered the mix because the price dropped to "panic sale" pricing. It's really bad out there.

Will the sport die? Of course not. Much of what's going on is simply the bubble burst from "the good ol' days" of ratings and cash. But make no mistake about it...the bubble is bursting and the garage is a pretty miserable place these days. There will be much more pain in the coming weeks and months and probably year or two. So I wouldn't be too dismissive of the struggles and instability - they're very real. But I suspect, like every other industry, the market will eventually right itself, and we might catch a few smiles here and there from the guys in starched shirts and black pants.

Nonsense. Re-read the article. Baldwin got paid every week.

Perhaps his inability to attract sustaining primary sponsorship was a problem?
I get paid every week as well, doesn't mean I have enough money to pay all the bills. With most of the money going to the top teams there isn't all that much for the back markers. And your right, without $13,000,000. in sponsors your out of business.
