Team Orders

According to someone on another board who was at today's race, Front Row Joe was told over the radio to let JJ back by after passing him on the high side because he was racing for the championship.

And I have no reason to doubt the guy.

That would suck if that's true. This isn't F1, this is NASCAR.

Yes we know this is racing Paul, we just like seeing events handled like this in a proper way.

How stupid would Hendricks feel if they lost the championship by 10 points, and those 10 points could have been made by having a teammate help you get them but your teammate didn't?

Didn't he get his lap back and then lose it again when he had to pit? Or was it he stayed out, didn't get a caution so had to pit and went a lap down. Never mind. Anyway, I'd hate for them to do things that way but I bet there are a lot of this that we don't hear about.

I'm sorry, but when I have to read posts twice to interpret them its pretty bad. Please proofread, for my sanity.

I just don't know if I go for that whole pull-over-for-your teammate policy, whether it is for the championship or not. I guess as long as it isn't for the win. Plus that might put Nemechek in better standing for getting a ride with Rick Hendrick. But this better not happen again, Nemechek had a faaaaast car today, I don't think he really got to show all he had.

Opps my bad..."behind the scenes" stuff that happens, NOT to do. UGH where's my brain? I think I got hit too many times like Steve Park.

Why is it that I find something wrong here and no one else seems to? "Someone" on "another board" who was at today's race evidently heard something.......on the scanner? From a pit crew member? Maybe he was standing next to Joe's Crew Chief? Or was it the guy sitting next to him that heard it? I see nothing to substantiate this statement except "I have no reason to doubt the guy". Sorry, 71Fan........that ain't enough to make it a fact. It's a rumor.

Just my opinion.:)

Call it anything you like. As I said, I have no reason to doubt the validity of the on scene report.

It would not surprise me if it happened, but I'd rather it didn't.

Again, what if they lost the championship by ten points, and those ten points were points they could have gotten by having a TEAMMATE help?

For fans of a team sport, you folks sure don't like to see teamwork.

Funny how it gets changed around when its not DEI running one-two.....

Maybe Hendrick wants to make sure his cars finish 1-2 in the championship, nothing wrong with that. telling nemechek to get out of the way.

When Jr finishes first and Waltrip second, all we hear is how Waltrip let Jr win and how crappy it is. What a great travesty it is how someone would let another driver win......But as soon as another team does it, its called great teamwork.

I agree coonhound, especially when Joe is not high in the points. Who knows, that might even help Joe keep the 25 car for next year.

The difference is that Waltrip insults our intelligence by saying "Oh, I really was trying to pass him". When it's obvious he wasn't.

Jr, on the other hand, did what a real driver does and tried to pass Waltrip.

But this has no relation to team orders, which are fine, IMO.

I don't have a problem with that at all...........if a teamowner is going to have more than one driver, it shoud be a team effort. Look at Rousch. He had 5 drivers one year trying to win the cup. Of course, only two were ever in the contention. The same with Hendrick. He has three teams, but only one is ever in contention.

If a driver has teammates, its going to come down to whichever driver on your team has the best chance at winning a cup. That said driver will get the most attention as far as race set-ups and equipiment, and the other drivers on his team will be expected to help him win. If it means letting him by to get more points, letting him lead a lap to get five bonus points, or letting him get back on the lead lap.

Its something drivers really need to think about if they are going to be with a team owner that has more than one driver under them. Look at Jarrett and Rudd last year, both of them went head to head several times at the end of a race...beating and banging on each other. I remember Jarrett almost wrecking Rudd with inside five laps left in the race. Rudd was the leader in the NWCC. I don't remember which race is was, but Jarrett was the winner.

Its true about Jarrett and Rudd, they have never worked as a team..

well Its no different than Ryan and Rusty just hanging out in Second and Third taking home the nascar points instead of trying to ruff Jeffy Gordon up for the Win !!!!!!
