You know, I haven't posted on here for awhile...I used to, but I've been busier than all get out with school. I have been reading; however, this recent incident at the race and the rash response has been somewhat disconcerting enough to force a response from me.
Strangely, it seems that people are arguing over what, like, 5, 10 points here? In another thread, RobbyGFan said, "Your driver lost, get over it" and someone else mentioned, "Relax, they all get to try again next week". Both were spot on in their replies.
It seems that the complainers have this idea in their head that Jr. was destined to win on Sunday. If this were the case, no one would ever watch Nascar...even Jr. Fans would get tired of watching Jr. win week after week. The fact that I'm not an ardent supporter of the 8 or the 24 may have a lot to do with my ability to look at this from a neutral perspective.
Being a Robby Gordon fan, I've suffered quite a few lumps with my driver's performance. I curse him when he makes stupid mistakes (taking two tires instead of 4), (not topping off) amongst other things and I cheer him when he makes a good pass (under caution or green) celebrate when he wins and feel down when he doesn't. Of course, being mired in the 20's in the points doesn't really help me either...but then again, I never expected him to be number one either.
Overall, its just this general idea that your driver SHOULD win every race he/she is in. Sure, I got mad when Robby got swallowed up in the Daytona 500 mess, when Sauter cut down his tire, when he and Burton got into it at Richmond last year, stupid rookie mistakes at Nashville, but never...NEVER, did I expect Robby to win every race. Do I think he'll win every road race this year? no, but if he did, it would just be sweeter that way.
I guess I'm just trying to say that I get excited whenever anyone wins a race...the beauty is that someone wins every race. At the start, you don't know who, and one by one, someone falls out of contention...lap by lap ticks by and the number of contenders gets smaller and smaller. YOu pick your horse and you go with them, if they win, great, if they don't oh well...get'em next week. I mean, look at the earlier stages of the race, some people seemed like they were racing, short pitting and all, with expectations that the race would end under rain...with that strategy in mind, some people took a hit and fell out of contention early, but gosh, don't get angry just because YOUR driver didn't win a race. Plate races don't belong to DEI, they just happen to do well there.
I guess I'm done, I need to get back to my paper for class, probably more important than all this whining and crying everyone is doing.
