When did Andy's Lexmark printer break

my last client's HP computer had a fan melt 1 month out of the EXTENDED warranty.

I have a canon ip700 and a PSC5000 series, both working well.

Lexmark is baaad news. They design their stuff specifically to break right at those exact times so that they get you to buy another one. They're the free printers you get with Dell computers that usually go straight to the dumpster after being harvested for their ink cartridges. They don't care to spend enough time making it work 3 years from now.

I don't know anyone in my circle of friends that have Lexmarks....Just sayin

I like my Dell printer I got it 7 years ago now, still works, actually outlasted the laptop I got it with plus the original hard drive of the laptop that replaced it.

I use a "Brother" Laser...I will never buy another inkjet printer

Color lasers are nice, but I've found that to get photo-quality color you have to spend a lot more than the base $270 I've seen the printers go for...not counting the cost for toner. If you go inkjet, though, go Kodak. I've had mostly Lexmarks and HP's over the years and found that both have problems with their cheap parts. I've heard nothing but good about Kodaks.

I had a laser printer but it was ancient and I couldn't use it with my laptop. The toner cartridges are pricey but the long term cost savings is very much worth it, if you can afford it in the short run.

Kind of brings tears to my eyes thinking of the times I spent in a dark room developing film. Printers these days are so much better than what we used to use. My first printer was a Brother dot matrix. Forget about printing a picture, but images were pretty much non-existent on the computer then. I've got an older ink jet HP and it still works great. And the fact that printers these days are quite inexpensive, I'm looking to replace it with a wifi one.

I'd keep the old HP until it falls apart. The newer stuff is made from plastic that breaks as soon as the warranty is out. If you have a wireless router, I'd just use a parallel to USB cable, and run it right through the router.

I have no need for a color printer and refuse to torture myself with inkjet so I use a 12/13 year old B&W laser printer that has served me very well over the years.

In fact, I got it used and have never had to replace the toner cartridge but keep in mind that I seldom print frivolously and its highest resolution is 300dpi.

I also print 99% of the time on econo mode...man, I'm a cheapskate

The phrase is, and I'll make it bold, man, I'm frugal.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to print something in the last year.

I hear ya there. 100% of the times I count on one hand that I had to print have been work related.

I pop everything on a flash drive and print it from school, but it's a pain in the ass and having a working printer at home would be more convenient.

Not that I'm that old but when I was in college we were using dot matrix printers and plotters with techinal pens.

Good times for sure.

If you're at school, I suppose you're blocked from connecting to your home computer through remote desktop and printing from files on that?

Either way, can you imagine the hassle without flash drives?

I actually haven't used a flash drive in a while, except to test a FAT32 driver I was working on. :beerbang:

Man, I've got 6 or 7 on the go at once and probably look like an old style telephone operator with are the plugging/pulling going on trying to find the one I want.

Whippersnapper...we were using Daisy-Wheels and technical pens. Looked like a woodpecker on crack...;)

Ha, when Whizz went to school, Gutenberg was still a pup. Hammer and chisel was starting to be recognized. :D
