The season is drawing to an end and it’s down to just two drivers to win the title, but really, only one, as long as he keeps his nose clean, and with winning the last four in a row, I’d say that’s a cinch. Still, there’s a chance that Gordon could win his fifth title.

With that said, tell us what you like. We already know what you don’t like.

You don’t like the Chase,
You don’t like the COT,
You don’t like Brian France,
So what do you like?

You don’t like Jimmie,
You don’t like Jeff,
You certainly don’t like Dale Jr.,
So what do you like?

You don’t like ABC,
Nor do you like ESPN,
You gotta a problem with FOX,
So what do you like?

You don’t like the diagrams,
You don’t like the draft-track,
You don’t like the Tech Center,
So what do you like?

You don’t like DW,
You don’t like Larry,
You don’t like any of the announcers,
So what do you like?

You don’t like Bruton Smith,
You don’t like Bob Bahre,
You don’t like the Frances,
So what do you like?

You don’t like cookie cutter tracks,
You don’t like road courses,
Now you say you are beginning to dislike Bristol,
So what do you like?

Just a little fun trying to figure out what you guys like anymore in NASCAR. I do know that y’all really do like to commiserate about the sport, but for the life of me, I’ve never seen so much negativity about a subject that so many claim to love.

 :beerbang:  :beerbang:  :beerbang:

There is not a ton a like that much about Nascar anymore...but there a few things.

The smell and sound when they first fire the engines up.
An Earnhardt still racing and still completive.
Something to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon when there is nothing else on tv.
Seeing a first time winner.
Side by side racing lap after lap.
The atmosphere at the campgrounds of the race tracks.....nothing beats it.

What is there to like?

I like the fact that Tony the Brat is not going to win and that he will be stuck in a Yota next year although I have to admit, byfar the best race this year was the one he held at Eldora with the NASCAR guys. Maybe the Frances should take notes. I liked the fact that the races this year allowed me to catch up on some sleep. My wife really likes it because I spent more time with her rather than glued to the TV. I like the fact that the ratings are dropping, maybe the Frances should also take note of that too. But I really have to say that the racing is just not as exciting to me as it used to be. I feel more like a true diehard Nascar fan watching a formula one race,It's just not the same. But let Smith close down the last track in N.C. and move it and see how many more of the old fans in the heart of racing land they will lose. Just wonder home many diehard fans they will have like you left Buck. But maybe it is time for oldtimers like me to move on and find something worthwhile to occupy my time.

This is an interesting fact....but if Bruton moves Lowes to SC...which wont happen....NC will be without a date on the schedule.

I have a friend that went to several races this year --- I would tape the race and send it to her. She told me many times that what I was seeing on TV was NOT representative of the action going on at the track. Far too much all we home viewers get to see is what TV decides we need to see --- usually 1 car at a time.

I think a lot of us are getting tired of watching --- not because the product is all that bad --- it's just that we don't get to sample the whole thing. We only get TV bites --- and they get to choose the bites.

Now, as to what I like ---- I love the personalities of the drivers. I love their temper tantrums and bad language --- it shows they care. I still enjoy being at race --- live and in living, breathing color. Nothing gets my blood up like the smell of burning rubber and feeling the power of the engines and they go by.

The smell of burning rubber.

The sounds of 750 horsepower live at Richmond.

NASCAR on TNT LIVE.

Kevin Harvick or Juan Pablo winning races.

Side-by-side finishes, photofinishes.

New winners, someone other than Hendrick or Roush cars winning.

The concept of stock car racing.

I like FOX's coverage, their grafx are just huge.

I LOVED TNT's coverage.

ESPN does suck royally.

And, I love short tracks and road courses. Also, new Bristol rocks.

I like when the gals lift their tops and show their ample bosoms. :D

But you don't even see that much anymore either.

Just kidding folks.
Hard to say what I like anymore. I stay working in the sport but it has lost so much over years. I guess I can still appreciate the excitement of someone seeing a race car up close or seeing their first race.

The easiest answer for me is:

I like NASCAR a helluva lot better than any other "professional" sport.

At least NASCAR drama has yet to involve doping, dogs, strikes, etc....

Some have been caught;) But I do agree. I like college football and Nascar

I like the fact that Nascar is over before College Basketball starts in earnest.

I like Jeff Gordon
I like the COT
I like Jeff Hammond:angel2:
I like DW
I like Fox
I like Bristol
I like Charlotte
I like road courses (we all know who the king of the road courses is)

I don't like the chase because it has cost JG 2 championships
I don't like Bob Bahare or Bruton because I still carry a grudge at them for N. Wilkesboro
I don't like Brian France

I thought North Wilkesboro was boring, but that's just me. Watched a race there on TV in 1994 and in 1996, both bored the hell out of me.

Son you are too young to know what real racing is

I like ORP, I like Bristol, Martinsville, love Richmond, loved Hickory, loved small Nashville.

I just vividly remember the most boring race I watched in 1994 was at Wilkesboro. :idunno:

Gordon misses North Wilkesboro. Not for the atmosphere, but for the track.

It wasn't until the speedway's final race in 1996 that he won there.

"That track challenged me even more than Martinsville did," he said. "I wish some of these guys got to run at North Wilkesboro. These guys, they're always talking about how tough Martinsville is. I'm telling you what, North Wilkesboro was tough. I took a lot of pride that I finally won there.

"That place, I just felt like I was lost every time I went there. I had no clue, and then we won a pole in '95 and that meant a lot to me. Then we went there and won the race in '96. It's always one that stands out in my mind as a great accomplishment."

The following is a partial list of things that suck about NASCAR...

The Chase
The COT
The greedy bastards that run it
The coverage with the mickey-mouse graphics
Basically everything that they've changed in the sport in the past 10-15 years (except for anything related to upgraded safety).

These are the major points as far as I'm concerned.

I have only been a fan since the NHL strike but this sums it up and I have only watched it for three seasons.

The chase is retarded but I get the fact that it is only to keep people watching the last few races. Not a big Gordon fan but he got robbed.

The COT is a piece of ****. I think they still need to tweek it a bit more before giving it a full season. But safer is better.

The greedy bastards that run it. Enough said right there.

Coverage does suck hard. They need to show all the battles. Even if it is for the 30th spot, it's still more exciting than watching a car with nobody around it.

Ah, we're getting there, but there's still a lot of hate in some of those responses. Remember, we all know what you hate, it's what you like that we want to know.

As for those greedy bastards that run the races, it's funny, but that sentiment runs so deep that it includes every small track that I've been to. Maybe there's more to it than just being greedy. But one thing I'm pretty sure of and that's the owner of Caraway, or Hickory, or Myrtle Beach speedways aren't in the same league as Smith or the Frances.

I like Jeff Gordon. I like how he is still very competitive and just dominated the series this year even though the playoff system took away what would have been his 6th under the old system. I like how Jeff is so much happier now with his wife and newborn.

I like Kyle Petty. I like what he stands for and what he does for other people, especially children. I like that there is still an active driver named Petty.

I like Martinsville, Bristol, Richmond, and the road courses among other tracks.

I love seeing a race live. The sights, sounds and smells are unique to the sport and just awesome to experience in person.

I like seeing a driver win who hasn't won in a long time or ever.

I like when a driver praises his whole team when they win a race.

There is till much to enjoy about the sport. If NASCAR would quit screwing with it there would be even more.

Yep, me too.

Yep, me too. I also like Darlington, Dover, and Pocono ( if they would let them race the old way)

I love seeing a race live. The sights, sounds and smells are unique to the sport and just awesome to experience in person.
Yep, me too. Too bad they are so expensive.

I like seeing a driver win who hasn't won in a long time or ever.
Yep, me too. I would love to see Bobby Labonte in the winners circle again.

I like when a driver praises his whole team when they win a race.
Yep, me too. It shows class for one thing and gives some credit where it belongs.

There is till much to enjoy about the sport. If NASCAR would quit screwing with it there would be even more.
Yep, me too. Especially if they would stop screwing around with it.

What do I like about NASCAR ?????

I find it hard to be positive about NASCAR when there is little remaining of the original sport so when Buck or anyone else asks what any of us like, from my point of view, the answer is, not much.
I know this doesn't answer the question asked by Buck, yet in the time he posted this thread up until the date of this reply, I have given much thought about what I like about NASCAR and truthfully can not come up with much positive while continuing to search for an answer. The worse part is, the more I think about the question the less enamored I become.

One thing for sure, the best thing about NASCAR is this forum and the folks who post and visit here. These are all wonderful people. Some have a remarkable sense of humor and quick wit, some offer an uncanny insight of the sport and then there are the few who fall into the "habitual bitcher" category yet at times they too are interesting and show an ability to engage in intelligent discussion.
And there are those who fall into all three categories, all of which when taken as a whole, make for a well rounded forum of fun people. :)

Considering that I'm not Pro-HMS and this an overtly Pro-HMS board, I still thinks it's one the best run racing sites that I've seen - especially when you look at the some of the hateful crap that's floating around cyberspace these days

Well thank you Whizzer. I think pretty highly of your views as well... :D

And, Patrick that's one reason I try to throw out some humor now and then. Sometimes things just start getting a little dark here and I'm one of the ones that likes to throw open the windows for the sun to shine in...
