Are the days of watches gone? Saw an ad that Chex posted in another thread featuring someone attempting to wear a watch. It just got me thinking..... Are watches a thing of the past? Personally, I don't think I know anyone that even wears a watch. I grew up wearing one but these days a phone is my choice when I need to know the time. What say you?

I prefer a watch, which probably makes me the only 20-something to say that. Even in high school, when it was taboo to pull out a phone in class, I was usually the only person with a watch. One classroom didn't have a clock in it, I probably got asked 10 times a day for the time in that class.

I have several watches and haven't worn one in years.

When we go out I wear my 'good' watch. Wearing it so seldom it now feels weird having it on my wrist.

Phone, I had a watch in highschool but then didn't use it anymore all phone now.

watch. When I dont have one on I feel naked. 'course I am over 40

Neither of the above. I own a watch but rarely wear it. I just don't feel the need to be pressed for time. Not that I'm habitually late (I'm not - I keep track of the time when I need to via wall clocks or the clock in my car's console). I feel even less motivated to wear an "electronic leash", a.k.a. cell phone, and don't own one.

Saw an advertisement on TV yesterday for a new smart phone that you could wear like a watch, and one of it's "features" was an app that made it look like a watch. Seemed funny to me - buy an expensive smart phone plus pay monthly service charges and one of it's "features" can be duplicated much more cheaply by the real thing (watch).

I wear a watch, easier to keep up with time if it's on my wrist. Probably be easier to keep up with my phone if I could wear it on my wrist.

I can't stand to wear a watch and never could. I also can't stand wearing any type of jewellery.

I could never keep a watch longer than 6 months, I either broke it or lost it. My phone is y best watch ever.

Have to have my watch but the one I'm wearing now is borderline clock! :D

this one!

There are clocks everywhere; car, computer, and every appliance in my kitchen. But I prefer a watch over a phone (I hate digital clocks).

Just wondering, are young kids today taught how to tell time the traditionally way with a clock face and not digitally??

Good question, Bob. I know most of the youngsters I encounter at registers in stores, couldn't make change if they weren't told by the computer.
My wife say's that in Florida they are taught both clock face and digital. But by the 6th grade about half of them have forgotten how to read a standard clock face because they never see them.

Heaven forbid somebody hang this on the wall

Yep. My old ship's wall chronograph's would blow their mind.
They're necessary as a ham radio operator. Now granted i just use the world clock function on my phone, they are still handy.

We had ones marked GMT/ZULU/UTC or any combination thereof. The last 20 years or so they were mostly just for show. Our communication rooms and Bridges have GMDSS and are all digital.

I use a phone to check the time. I'm horrible with jewelry.

I wear a watch as jewelry sometimes, but I had a G-Shock that I had for the longest. A very good and reliable watch.

I prefer a watch that's not digital. Honestly, I think its sad how young men and women cannot tell what time it is on an analog clock.

Or read a map without GPS
Cook
Clean

I could go on, but I still enjoy watches. I'm not huge on jewelry, so I want collection of watches instead.
