Here kitty, kitty, kitty
I have always enjoyed the feature with FOX and their "10 laps with whomever". It's quite comical at times, but it will show how the guys really feel about the subject at hand. I think we learned a lot from this weekend's version with Jimmie Johnson. The final question I believe was, 'do you believe that you (Jimmie Jo) are the best driver out there to have never won the Cup'? He said that of course, he would wear that lable, meaning to me that he did so believe that.
Okay, now correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that include everyone who has ever tried to gain this title? Well, though I'm no big fan of Jimmie Jo's, I find that he probably was a bit hasty in taking full credit for this honor. Jimmie is pretty hot at the moment and without a doubt, is one of the top drivers in the sport at this time and for a couple of years back from when he came up to this level, but let's not be too quick in looking back at others who could in fact be given this "award". I will forever be one who has called Mark Martin the "Best driver to never win the Winston Cup, now Nextel Cup, driver". As it stands right now, I will continue to say this, and will until either Mark wins, which is now only possible for this season, or until Jimmie Jo either wins the title or comes in second and has as many wins as Marky. To me, and I repeat, to me, this just shows the lack of humility that Jimmie has and while that's fine, it's a trait that is waning with not only this sport, but others as well. I'm sure that if Jimmie had been reminded of Mark's failure to win the title, he would have conceded to him, but it wasn't his first thought. All of which will tell us all that we are not dealing with our father's NASCAR.
Jimmie Jo is good, maybe great and I've been a fan of his. But let's not get carried away at the present and let him make his own legacy and compare that to others when he's finished. Maybe it's just me, but I for one think that Jimmie Jo will one year, if not this one, will win that coveted trophy and will be excluded from this argument all together. However, I find him a bit out of line by telling the world that he is in deed the best driver who has never won the title. I've give him the second best right now though.
