CREVE COEUR, Mo. — A Texas man has died after losing control of his drag boat while racing on a St. Louis-area lake.
Organizers of the Budweiser Creve Coeur Lake Drag Boat Classic say Jim Tucker, 52, of Kingsbury, Texas, was driving at about 140 mph in a qualifying round of the event Saturday when his boat lurched violently and crashed.
Fred Welshans, president of the St. Louis Drag Boat Association, told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Tucker was an experienced boat racer and it appeared to have been a tragic accident.
Organizers said it was the first death in the event's 30-year history.
