Texas Bonehead.

Me for missing the race. Its dvr'd though.

The parachute thing. Despain made a good point, what if that weighted sand bag hits somebody in the head.

The truck series for putting on the worst race of the season.

Brad for sliding his tires and losing 1st.

JJ doesn't need all this help Brad. Giving him that win was bad....very bad.

Another vote for the parachute jumper smacking the side of Harvick's car. Like what was mentioned in the earlier post, we're lucky that nobody was hurt. I understand the excitement of them doing this routine. It's done each year @ Bristol. You'd think the landing area would be a little further away from the crowd standing on pit road. Somehow I'm guessing it was Bruton that placed the landing zone 'X' next to the spectators for added excitement. I'm just sayin'.

I missed the parachute incident. But I'd either go with that or with Brad messing up his stop and losing, all those spots.

NASCAR for having this race again on opening week-end of deer hunting season. No wonder why ticket sales were DOWN.

According to Jayski, the joint holds 138K, and 146K were in attendance. It must have been really crowded in the infield, or they spent a lot of time in line at the bathrooms.

A quick Google search turned several sources that place the number of deer hunters in Texas between 600K and 700K. I doubt they're all NASCAR fans. Besides, as big as your state is, many of those that are fans probably live over five hours from the track and wouldn't be there even if it wasn't opening weekend. Attendance has been down at all tracks over the last two years.

Besides, isn't most deer hunting done early in the day? The race didn't start until mid-afternoon; there was plenty of time to do both. I've sat next to people who must have gone hunting before they sat down; I assume that smell was doe urine

That's an interesting new angle. I hope Brian doesn't go and kill all the Deer.
I don't think it's a new angle. I vaguely remember it coming up a few year ago. Not sure when or where I saw/heard it it, but do remember it being brought up before.

I think at one time that place could seat 190K.

That wouldn't surprise me. A lot of tracks have taken out seating, especially on the back stretch to put in RV lots instead. Others are using large advertising banners to cover sections they've stopped trying to fill.

It's another reason to run more Truck and N'wide races at smaller tracks. A full crowd of 27K looks better on TV than 27K rattling around in 135K seats.

After talking to some friends that are Deer hunters and Nascar fans I was told now that the new has worn off of NASCAR in Texas they would rather hunt deer.

Jeff Gordon for pulling a Jr on his teammate.

Unfortunately, NASCAR's idea of expansion wasn't new tracks in new markets, it was 1.5 mile tracks with more seats. I bet if nascar built 10 short tracks west of the miss, they could have 2 divisions 5 or 6 years after. Then we could have a real 2 race home and away playoff between the top 10 teams in each division.

After finally watching the races, Denny Hamlin for being such a crybaby because a NW rookie raced him too hard and for acting like a spoiled freakin kid.

A grandiose plan for the next millennium ?

There is no way there was 146K there. They must be starting to count the whole week-ends attendance now.

I think they accidentally counted the people on the ferris wheel along the backstretch twice. o_O

I wish. ISC and SMI have too much money sunk in those larger boat anchors to consider replacing them. Remember why that size was trendy? The notion was the track would be able to schedule other series besides NASCAR (translation: open wheel). Indy car popularity has dropped even more than NASCAR's, and the only way they can get fans to buy those tickets is to force season packages down their throats. Now the Big Two are stuck with track layouts that seemed like a good idea at the time, along with excess capacity in the stands.

There may be some people who consider a 1.5-miler as their favorite track, but I bet it's only because they live close to it.

That ridiculous "rate the race" thread.

How difficult is it to type a simple number? Pretty soon people will be rating how long it took them to dislodge a piece of apple peel from their teeth or the smell of a dog fart!

Yet we somehow carry on.

My dog can fart a 10, while shagging a leg.

I like em all . So I don't bother arguing the point anymore.

Personally, I'd rather see someone give it a number along with some reasoning why they gave it that rating. I mean, this is a discussion board afterall.

Yeah, but how cold the Pepsi was or how lumpy the sofa is has nothing to do with the race. I'm not suggesting it shouldn't be there but just trying to add some perspective. I imagine if I went over and rated every lap, it would probably upset people.

Obviously it's just my opinion and others MMV :)

I agree - ceptin for the destructor plate races, of course...

When TMS was built it held over 200K counting the infield. It was regularly full and it was an awesome sight.
As soon as NA$$CAR added a second race to the track, empty seats appeared, as if by magic!
Now they have reduced the backstretch granstand capacity and added the RV pads in it's place.
Still can't sell it out.
But it is a sign of the times as much as anything else, I think.

The second date did it in. They'd have alot more sellouts if the struggling tracks (except indy) had only 1 date.

The backstretch circus was something to see when we were headed to the drag race just north of the track. Definitely caught you off guard.
