So I walk in to get my schedule.

Sunday: 11am-7pm
Monday: 6am-2pm
Tuesday: off (though likely to be called in Winter Storm)
Wednesday: 6am-2pm
Thursday: 11am-7pm
Friday: 11am-7pm
Christmas Day: 8am-5pm

I *****ed to the asst. manager and she said "Everyone was scheduled outside their availability and everyone got 'screwed'."

Then she looked at my schedule and said "Nevermind, you got the most direct screw job, you have every right to be upset".

Damn right. I'm so glad I won't get to spend a minute with my family for Christmas.:sarcasm::sarcasm:

Did you at least get a reach-around (overtime/holiday pay)?

$1/hour for the 9 hour shift Christmas.

There's no overtime this week, company policy. Otherwise it'd be 16 hours OT.

A few people at work have messaged me, apparently everyone's *****ing about their schedule and management is referring to my schedule and telling them to STFU.

Well...I'd like to have sympathy for you, but I'm working Christmas as well...and, so far, it looks like an extremely boring day to be at work.

Andy, yup it sux working holidays but life goes on, it doesn't stop. My daughter worked the rescue on T-day, saved a guy who hit a 5,200 volt power line "trimming branches off a neighbors tree".

6a to 6 pm Christmas day she'll be in the ER, from 7pm to 6 am back on the rescue. Fortunately they'll be food at the station and they can sleep between calls. But she won't be here with her mother, brother and I.

Life, she's a byotch at times.

btw, not being a smart azz but be thankful you have a job to go too.

Oh they don't do things like that here. Instead of having ham with my family for Christmas, I'll be eating a ham sandwich listening to my iPod.

They sat right there and said several times if I worked Christmas Day, they'd give me an early shift Christmas Eve so I can spend time with my family. Then they turn around and shove a knife straight through my back because other people who don't work Christmas wanted Christmas Eve off.

I knew I'd have to work holidays and stuff, but working straight through is kind of ****ty. I don't understand why businesses open on Christmas anyways, anything to make a buck I guess.

Talked to the manager today. He kirked out and started cussing at me.

I told him, "Nevermind, just pretend I didn't say anything."

He then went on to say some things that pissed me off.

"Those kids need time with their family, you're a single male with no family in the area".

I said, "You know what, it's fine, I'll spend my entire Christmas working here, I don't care."

They better not ever ask me to come in on my day off or ask me to cover someone else's shift ever again. I've done favors for them 100% of the time they asked me to, then I get **** ****ed.

I had a friend who's daughter is also working on Christmas precisely because she was single and childless. It's bull****, why should people who decided to have children get special rules and attention, while those of us who choose not to breed gets screwed over?

My business won't be open for Christmas (or Christmas Eve), however I will still have to take care of the dogs.

What you really need to do, rather than being upset that you have to work those hours, is be thankful that you're a) getting those hours, and/or b) not spending the holidays in a tent in Iraq, Afganistan or some other country under less than great conditions.

I'm thankful it only happened to me twice, once leaving the country on December 17th enroute to Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, and once leaving for Greenland on the 20th.

My daughter is also working Christmas. She said it's just more money for her and the family and the turkey will be there when she gets home. She's the manager and does the schedule. She said she done it so that the ones with children can be home with the kids. I was a single parent when they were little and she said she remembered what it was like to them when I had to work on Christmas and wasn't home.

In my 4 years I only spent one Christmas at home. Never spent a Thanksgiving at home. Could have been worse I guess.

Thule? Dammmm;)

Actually, Thule wasn't half bad. It was as remote as can be, but we had lots of TV, a great gym and lots of stuff to keep busy with.

What year were you in PSAB? I spent a good 191 days of a 90 day tour there in 2003...

I was there from December 97 until April 98. Tent city at that time, tents for sleeping, showering and eating. At least it was only four months.

That was during Joint Endeavor when I was in Bosnia for the winter. At the time, I kinda wished I was at Al's Garage...;)

Boo hoo hoo! Guess when the last time I spent time on Christmas with my parents? Forget it, you wouldn't understand. You are now acting your age. Go out and start your own business and then you can name your own hours. Andy, you are such a spoiled child, you are not grateful of anything. Here's what you ought to do, stop yer *****ing and go join the Marines. Wait, you wouldn't be able to swing it there, so pick another branch. Or I know, how about joining the Boy Scouts. You think you could handle that? Probably not. They require you to do certain things in order to move ahead and that is something that you are incapable of doing. I would say get a job, but you hate everything. Why not just stick your head in the sand and just keep on crying?

i couldn't agree more. that may seem strange for a liberal to say but i regularly advise young people that don't have a clue how to live on their own to consider the military. yes it can be dangerous. so is life, deal with it. you learn discipline and most of all how to friggin tie your own shoes without complaining you can't reach your damn toes. it may be a slogan but it's true. the military will make a man/woman out of you. and believe me, there's a lot of adults by age out there that have a whole lot of growing up yet to be done.

Poor Andy. Be thankful you have a job.
You could end up like this poor bastard did, with no job or benefits.
