So, I'm heading out the door this afternoon for a job interview and my truck is nowhere to be seen. I called the police and found out that they had it towed because some @sshat reported it "apparently abandoned, blocking traffic and no plates on it and it's been sitting there like that for three days". We'll, first off, I hadn't driven it yesterday, but I drove it quite a bit Saturday and several different times on Sunday morning and Sunday night as well. It was perfectly legally parked, as the cop who check on it apparently agreed. The current 30 day tags were also clearly posted in the back window. Why the cop didn't see that, I have no idea. It was pouring down the rain when I came home, so I posted them in the back window instead of in the plate holder on the back bumper. I went to the tow lot that they towed it to and the guy from the lot who went out there with me posed for pictures with the tags in his hand and attested to the fact that they were right there in the back window when I got there. I still had to go down to the police station downtown with my title to get a release so I could get my truck back and I still had to pay the lot $107 for doing me the favor of towing my perfectly legal vehicle. The city gave me a phone number to call to make a "moral claim". When I called the number they said they would send me the forms I would need and it would take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to possibly get reimbursed that money that I should have never had to pay in the first place. I'm so glad I've been paying taxes to the City of Akron for most of the last 30 years or so.
