This is an interesting holiday but it seems to pale amoung other great holidays for memories, even though for many it's a four day holiday weekend. I know there are some great stories and memories that people have and I wonder if anyone would like to share any of them?

One of the fondest memories I have of this holiday is back in 1971. I was in the Air Force, stationed at Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. I was a good thousand miles form home (Oklahoma) and though I had plenty of friends at the base, I was pretty much removed from them because of where I lived. Most of my friends lived in the barracks or the married ones lived elsewhere. I lived on base in single NCO "trailers" which were three bedroom trailers that had been on base from when they were constructing the base and was used to house families that worked in the construction business. Anyway, my roomates were both working, leaving me at home by myself. I didn't have anywhere to go and since I didn't have a car, I was pretty much stuck. One of my fellow workers, a TSgt who was in charge of Recreation Supply invited me to have Thanksgiving with him and his family. I'll never forget Al Fugere from New Hampshire and his family. I enjoyed the food and his two daughters, pre-teens gave me a tin of cookies for later eating. That was one of the best Thanksgiving Days I've had.

I don't remember any Thanksgiving standing out from the others. But I do remember certain things like it was yesterday. I remember my sister stuffing the turkey and my mom baking all kinds of pies. I remember the anticipation of all of the family coming over. I was the youngest of 9 kids and many had moved out before I can even remember them living at home. Several had moved out before I was even born, including my brother who was serving in Vietnam. It was always pretty cramped and hectic when everyone started showing up with their wives and kids.

The thing I remember most though, is just being there with Mom and Dad. I don't really think I appreciated it then as it just seemed like they would always be there. They've both been gone over 10 years now, so of course I look back a little differently now. They are fond memories though.

Thanksgiving was always special at my Grandma's. She never had less than a 21lb. turkey -- in her later years, it was my job to "rassle" the turkey because she couldn't lift it.

After she passed in 1996, I got her china. With it came the turkey platter --- the one with the repaired chip on the edge --- the chip was caused by my mom and my uncle when they washed dishes one year. I can't look at the platter without remembering the story of "the chip." Brings back lots of memories.

Family, friends, and anyone passing by coming over. Getting claustorphobia from all the people. LOL ACDC concert. Togetherness of just being together as a family.
My best memories is of my pappaw. He is/was my hero.

I got married on Thanksgiving Day :) The priest from our church married my husband and I at my grandma's house and then stayed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We had wedding cake and pumpkin pie for dessert :)

Thanks Kelloggs! Since we typically celebrate our anniversary on Thanksgiving (rather than the actual date) my husband never forgets it ;)
