Here kitty, kitty, kitty
This is an interesting holiday but it seems to pale amoung other great holidays for memories, even though for many it's a four day holiday weekend. I know there are some great stories and memories that people have and I wonder if anyone would like to share any of them?
One of the fondest memories I have of this holiday is back in 1971. I was in the Air Force, stationed at Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. I was a good thousand miles form home (Oklahoma) and though I had plenty of friends at the base, I was pretty much removed from them because of where I lived. Most of my friends lived in the barracks or the married ones lived elsewhere. I lived on base in single NCO "trailers" which were three bedroom trailers that had been on base from when they were constructing the base and was used to house families that worked in the construction business. Anyway, my roomates were both working, leaving me at home by myself. I didn't have anywhere to go and since I didn't have a car, I was pretty much stuck. One of my fellow workers, a TSgt who was in charge of Recreation Supply invited me to have Thanksgiving with him and his family. I'll never forget Al Fugere from New Hampshire and his family. I enjoyed the food and his two daughters, pre-teens gave me a tin of cookies for later eating. That was one of the best Thanksgiving Days I've had.
