The 10 Greatest Talladega Moments

I know there will be plenty of great Earnhardt moments and I sure hope they put in Bill Elliott making up 2 laps under green and winning by 2 seconds.

The day Bill Elliott became "Awesome Bill" came in the Winston 500 in May 1985 when Elliott came from two laps down to win the race. A loose oil-fitting had brought Elliott to pit road with his car smoking, and he was more than 5 miles behind when he went back out. Then, he simply ran the field down from there, making up one second per lap at times. "We surprised ourselves that day," Elliott said.

I'm sure they'll say 2000 Winston 500 and the 2009 Aarons 499 were the greatest moments (one because we all still have to bow to Earnhardt and the other because, man that crash was spectacular:rolleyes:)

Definitely a lot of moments to choose from this list.

I'm curious to see how many of the notorious Talladega crashes will make the list. I mean, they're not necessarily "great" moments. Besides, a list of Talladega wrecks deserves it's own show.

I remember my jaw dropping after watching this crash. The replays never quite caught the spectacular of it all, due to all the smoke. It was the first - and last - time a car has ever tumbled out of Talladega. A catch fence surrounding the entire speedway was installed after this wreck. So, with apologies to Stan Smith, some good did come out of this:

One of my favorite finishes. Love how Earnhardt and Spencer split the lap car with three laps to go. And then Mikey going three-wide to briefly take the lead.

One of my favorite starts. The era of the big pack racing begins. Who did lead the 2nd lap?

Scary stuff here. The wreck was never seen live on ESPN for the majority of the viewers. But some did get this live feed. Listen to Bob Jenkins in the beginning. What if NASCAR announcers said what they really were thinking?

Yeah, me too. But it's human nature to react in that way.

I remember watching the 1984 Busch Clash and seeing Ricky Rudd's car prepare for takeoff coming out of turn 4. We all know what happened after that. I had never seen a car fly through the air like that. I was screaming things at the top of my lungs that I was not sure I was capable of saying. My sister frantically rushes to the living room and asked what was wrong. I said, "watch the tv!" She rolled her eyes, shaked her head, and left the room.

The moral of the story? Sisters - can't live with 'em, ......

You guys notice how the racing is? That's the way it should be none this two car bull**** that we have now. They could pull out and draft past each other, now they can't unless they have a car pushing them.
