What a race! I believe it was the best in a few years. Often times the All Star events in Charlotte have been run aways. There is always plenty of drama that unfolds at Charlotte during these events. I am glad that rain was not part of the event, as one of the best finishes occured Saturday night. "Wyld Kyle" was as entertaining as ever, playing peek-aboo with a strong Matt Kenseth on restarts. Jeff Gordon needed no extra help from a T-rex to fly around the 1.5 mile dog-leg and dominate a little of the race. "Rocket Man" showed how strong upstart Stewart-Hass-HENDRICKS has been lately, fixing a broken race car to fight for the lead in the last segment. In the end, it was the D.W. tabbed "bottom feeder" Tony Stewart who had his car on a rail, blowing by Kenseth in the final 2 laps to pick up his first AllStar event win, 1 mil plus purse, and FIRST win for his upstart team.
Kyle Busch had the car to beat late in the race, but a duel in turn 4 with Newman and Gordon proved to be two much for the M&M'S Camary. It also took out Gordon, who back in the late 90's won the race after a similar accident took out D.W. and Earnhardt in a late race turn 4 inncident. He was not so lucky last night, bouncing off the Kyle Busch sandwich and spinning through the infield only to pucker up the front end of his Impala on the frontstretch wall. It also ended the night for Newman, who came from behind after having to make pit stops to repair his Army Chevy. In the end, Kenseth didn't have enough Dewalt tools in his belt to hold of the hard charging "SMOKE" from blasting by him on the white line for the lead and the win in the AllStar event. I really hope that they decide to to leave the format alone for next years event, because they nailed it with the 100 lap event on Saturday night.
Way to go Tony, great race man, get them again in the World 600!!!
