This is a serious question.
I believe NASCAR mandated restrictor plates in 1988. If that is so then there have been two races a year at both Daytona and Talladega for 14 years.........or 28 races per track which is 56 races with restrictor plates. Somewhere along the line "the big one" has become a common occurrence for any plate race. But, I find it hard to believe that there have been 56 "big ones" since 1988........I even find it hard to believe there have been 28 "big ones". I've searched (over two hours) for statistics...........unsuccessfully. Does anyone have any stats on just how many "big ones" there have been at these two tracks since the restrictor plates have been put into play? I'm not talking about the wall smacks, two, three, even four car wrecks that happen at almost any track........I mean what everyone fears at Daytona and Talladega (big, car flipping, 10, 12, 18 car pile ups).
I don't believe they happen near as much as it is hyped up to happen. Wish Hardscrabble would come back.
