The Bombers...?

I would just like to get everyones point of view on something. I follow an Australian Football team, which are known as 'The Bombers' and recentry the club was contacted by one of our Political parties about a change of name for the club. This club has been called the bombers for way over a one hundred years, and it might surprise you all to know AFL was the first type of football in the world in the list of other football like NFL, rugby and soccer.

The reason behind them wanting the name change is due to recent history with terrorists, even though this club was called the bombers through two world wars.

Of course as a passionate supporter of this team I would hate to see such a name change, but I thought it would be an idea to get a point of view from another country and culture who deals with terrorism also who aren't biased by following the team or the sport...just weather you think it an offensive name even for a club.

Oh we are called the bombers after the plain, not actual bombers just to make that clear!! :)

I don't see a problem with the name bombers.
Just another example of trying to make everything PC :rolleyes:
 
I dont see a problem with it, bombers is a general word. A pilot in a war, fighting for a good cause flying a plane that drops bombs may be called a bomber. Its not like its a specific word(s being afiliated with some sort of terrorist group. Like if the football team was called al queda.

Bomber

A combat aircraft designed to carry and drop bombs.

One who makes or sets off bombs.

I think all this PC stuff is just crap. If someone is that easily offended I say they need to grow up. Or make a visit to their physician for a prescription and get help in dealing with reality. :ph34r: Bombers sounds good to me.
 
It's easy to just chaulk it all up to "PC" but I think it goes beyond that.

I think we shouldn't change the way we live because of "terrorism".
 
Well, the Yankess will always be known as
the Bronx Bombers...

I guess the same sort of thing happened in
Washington DC....the NBA Wizards used to be
known as the Bullets....seeing that DC was
once regarded as the worst homicide city
in the nation per capita, the owner thought
it was sending the wrong message, so they
had a contest where the public got to voice
their choices and select a new name...

Of course, now, the Redskins are dealing with
the name problem, too...no telling when or if
that will become something...
 
Don't people have better things to do than go around complaining about the name of a football team?
