I just saw the movie The Fighter last night. That was a really good movie. Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams were all great in their roles. I usually don't like Christian Bale in pretty much anything. I thought he sucked in Public Enemies, but he was perfect as the crack addict brother.

It's based, loosely I'm sure, on Irish Micky Ward. Ward is a boxer who grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts. Wahlberg plays Ward, of course, and Bale plays his brother, and trainer, who once fought Sugar Ray Leonard. Amy Adams plays the girlfriend.

I don't want to give away too much about the plot, but it was gritty and realistic, and just a really good movie. I would highly recommend it, as long as ubiquitous profanity doesn't bother you.

Has anybody else seen this movie? And if so, what did you think?

I saw this movie several months ago and liked it. I heard some interviews with Wahlberg, the director and I believe some of the actual family members on NPR some time ago. Wahlberg talked about how he trained for this role and it included actual boxing. He said that he did get hurt while filming the movie. I like Bale and believe he is a great actor. In the movie Rescue Dawn, he played USN pilot Dieter Dengler who was shot down over Vietnam and held prisoner. Dengler escaped the prison where he was held and made it back to safety. Bale had to lose a lot of weight for this movie. BTW, if you haven't seen this movie, you should.

I really liked the movie terrific acting. Only thing I wanted to see was them to show his match with Arturo Gatti which was one of the greatest fights I have ever seen.

Here is the end of Ward vs Gatti http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXnQlXn2at4&list=PL7BBA86EA44EA2283&index=47&feature=plpp_video

Thanks for posting that video. My computer is pretty screwed up so I had a really hard time seeing much of the action. I wasn't watching much boxing at that time so I never saw any of these fights. Does anybody know where I could get these fights?

just watched the hagler/hearns fight again. think the 70's and 80's had more quality fighter's than any other era. hagler, hearns (my favorite), duran and sugar ray leonard (the best). great time to be a boxing fan.

Absolutely! The 80's were simply the golden era of boxing in my opinion. You had so many great, or simply fun to watch fighters. You mentioned probably the 4 biggest names of the era, but there were so many guys like Ray "Boom-Boom" Mancini (a personal favorite as he was from my area and would fight you to the death (no pun intended)), "Sweet P" Pernell Whitaker (the next time he gets hit with a clean shot will be the first), Hector "Macho" Camacho (couldn't stand the guy but he was a hell of a competitor and fun to watch), Meldrick Taylor, Julio Ceazar Chavez, and many more.
