After two years of watching nascar races (you'll be pleased to hear I have watched every race since I last made contact here!), I managed to convince a mate (who is big into motor racing) to try a nascar race following on from the delight he had at watching his first indy 500 last week reveling at many of the things which are common in nascar too (lots of overtaking/thrilling finishes etc).
He absolutely loved it (as I did too) - From watching them get rid of 21s dented bonnet to every nudge and bump. Through to the mechanic trapping his fingers in the 18s car wheel. He loved the commentaries and found the waltrip brothers hilarious (especially Michael or as he said the 'campest nascar driver ever surely'). He loved the chaotic pitstops and loved learning about the sport (as much as my limited knowledge could muster). Amd as for the crazy overtime stuff - he'd never seen anything like it before (I was for once a bit gutted that 42 couldn't race that final lap to try and regain the lead but pleased for him cos it capped off a wonderful evening of viewing with a multi car crash which nascar is famous for!

Anyway he stayed for 5hrs on a 'school' night and drank lots of beer and I think will be returning for more action soon!

So one converted and hopefully word will spread via him as he has many contacts related to cars as he is a private car Salesman!

Just thought you'd wanna know that 'your' wonderful sport is very much appreciated over here!

You gotta remember us brits are very reserved and we don't like to invite any old Red necks around! ;) we like to take our time and be selective!

That is great news and I am glad you have a buddy to watch with. No question Michael Waltrip is the Peter Allen of Nascar.

Stiff upper lip and no wearing emotions on sleeves like Yanks. At least that is the way the geezers used to be but be careful not to use the term "geezer" on the forum as there is a guy that thinks it is insulting. You can say things like "bees knees" but most people will think you've gone into anaphylactic shock and if you use "dodgy" the yanks will think you are speaking of an automobile brand. If you talk about a "punter" people will think you are talking about a football player and "gobsmacked" will make some think that someone spat on you.

Wanker, tosser and rubbish should be OK.
