I am about to start reading the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The books in order are;

The Hunger Games
Catching Fire
Mockinjay.

These books have ranked 1, 2, and 3 in popularity for a long, long, time in the U.S. The books were written for 12 year olds but have become a big hit by readers of all ages. The first movie is about to be released and by all indications it is going to be a blockbuster hit.

Review from Amazon:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games," a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed.

I haven't read any of the books, but my wife and kids have read, or or reading them all. I do have every intention of watching the movie though. It's not really my type of story, but I want to see Jennifer Lawrence, so I will watch it anyway.

I'll probably read it after my fiance does, right now I'm reading a series called The War That Came Early by Harry Turtledove. Alternative history about WW2

I am 85% through reading the book on kindle and thoroughly enjoy it. Ask your kids if they liked "Rue". she was a character that you can't help but greatly love.

I play hunger games every day at work. Around 11:00, I say I'm hungry, then drive everyone nuts when I heat up my delicious leftovers around 11:30. :p

I would've never heard of this movie if not for Facebook. I'm pretty good with books, at least knowing what's hot, and I've never heard of this or seen anyone read it.

andy, where you been. The Hunger Games has been ranked #1 on the best sellers list for over a year. And the next two books in the series are ranked #2 and #3 nationally.

We went to see this last night. Both my wife and I, (who have not read the book), thought that it was pretty good. My son, who also has not read the book, said it was boring. He's a 16 year old so what the heck does he know? My daughter, who read the book, liked the movie but felt that the beginning was to drawn out in proportion to the rest of the movie. It did leave me wanting to read the book. Overall, I'd recommend this movie as we found it entertaining.

Side note on theaters in general. At least my local theater. I don't go to many movies and this trip to the theater reminded me why. The place where I went is part of the Regal Cinema chain. $9.50 an adult to watch a movie in a place that I would not describe as much more than a large room rather than a theater setting. One isle down the center with four or five seats to each side. The seemingly endless barrage of movie previews are annoying as heck to me as I was simply there to see the movie itself. It doesn't escape me as to why they show them but they're annoying none the less. Not only that, their theme tended to be either alien or vampire related among all of them. It seems that we are running out of idea these days but I guess that is what sells. During the previews we noticed an area about a third of the way in from the left and half way down the screen that looked like someone threw something against it and it reflected the light projected on it in a weird way. Throughout the movie this was very distracting. I'm sure the screens are expensive but how many $9.50's does it take to upgrade something like that? Again, perhaps this is just local to my area but I also find the picture quality to be less than desirable. Boils down to this, I probably should have waited the two months for the movie to come out on Blu-Ray and enjoyed it with my family @ home in HD on my wall hanging flat screen.

I am perfectly content to wait to see it on DVD myself. My youngest really wanted to see it opening weekend so she could talk about it with all of her friends who she knew would see it opening weekend. Fortunately for us, it opened at our favorite movie house in the area. The movies are only $5 for adults, and I think even cheaper for kids. they usually don't get movies on their first weekend out, but apparently they knew that they would sell enough tickets, even at the discounted rate, to more than make up for their initial costs. It is a much older actual theatre. Concessions are even about half what they cost at the Regal Cinema type places. My wife and the two kids that went with her loved the whole experience.
