This whole story about Kellen Winslow and the Browns suspending him for a game is getting old quick.

The Browns suspended him for a game only to recind the suspension when it was revealed that Kellen kept a text message that someone from the team sent him telling him not to reveal that he had gotten a staph infection. Kellen mostly said that the Browns had a problem with staph infections which is true. They have had several instances of their players getting these potentially fatal infections and have not been willing or able to correct the problem. Joe Jurevicius has missed half the season so far due to one of these already. LeCharles Bentley almost died from one he got from the organization. He is now out of football because of it. Kellen said he thought the other players had a right to know that they were at risk for a life-threatening illness. He also said that he didn't think the organization was treating their players well in this situation. For that, he was suspended.

I'm not saying that K2 is an angel by any means, but he is being made out to be some kind of horrible human being who is killing the entire organization. He plays his @ss off every week. If he had a decent quarterback he would have even better numbers. I was watching the Browns-Jaguars game yesterday and Randy Cross kept dumping on Kellen Winslow (even saying that the Browns might be better off without him) every chance he got. At the same time he kept praising Matt Jones and his performance while Jones played while appealing a suspension for failing a drug test. Jones even has pending legal issues following an arrest during the off-season but Cross praises him while trashing Winslow.

I know Randy Cross played in a much purer era, where almost everybody did steroids and a lot of them did cocaine and other substances that were never even tested for because the league liked the product on the field and didn't care at all about what it was doing to the players involved, but give me a break.

Yeah, and Pac Man Jones is another angel. I for one am tired of these high priced prima donas who can't do anything wrong. As long as people treat them as icons, they will get away with anything.

Staph infection's seem to be picking up steam in the NFL. Brady, Manning? It's no secret that infections are becoming more resistant to antibiotics to the population in general. Maybe the NFL should spend more time in educating the teams and players to best avoid prolonged recovery by making them more aware of the seriousness of the problem.
