The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns for their annual visit to Tazewell Speedway on Friday, August 21st. This is the make-up race that was rained out on July 5th. Anyone with a ticket stub or armband from July 5th should bring it back for admittance.
Some of the nation's and region's top dirt late model drivers will be on hand to take on the competition and the high banks of Tazewell Speedway. Joe Armes scored the upset win in the 2008 Toyota of Knoxville 75. Armes will be back to go against other local competitiors as well as the best of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series brings its exciting format to Tazewell for a one-night, $10,000 to win race. PRC time trials will set the field for heat races. B-main races will fill out the remainder of the field. All of that leads to the main event presented by Toyota of Knoxville.
Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tennesseee leads the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings. Defending and 4-time champion Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida has moved into second place in the series standings. Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tennessee is third following his win in the Topless 100 over the weekend. Dale McDowell, driving the Warrior house car, is 4th in the series standings. And Don O'Neal sits in 5th in the series standings.
Also in action on Friday, August 21st will be the modified streets, pure streets, and the classic cars.
Pit gates will open at 3:00 and grandstand gates will open at 4:00. Hot laps are scheduled for 7:30. Fans that plan to attend are asked to arrive early to allow plenty of time to get their tickets and through the gates. Hillside seating is available in turn 4. These areas are available on a first-come basis.
