I like the way this new points system is working. I wish they would have adopted this change rather than the Chase itself. 19 races into the season and anyone in the top 6 could leave the Brickyard in P1. DNF's were to be the downfall of a drivers season under this new points structure yet Kyle Busch with 3 DNF's sits 5th in points, only 20 points behind the leader who has none. I'm still not a proponent of the wildcard part of this as I don't see someone sitting in 20th position worthy of competing for the Chase. What do you think about this system?

Personally I think it sux. Even a blind squirel finds a nut occaisionally and that's how I look at a team in 20th with DNF's who wins a race by sheer luck thru fuel mileage replacing a team in 11th or 12th with no DNF's or a win. (s)

Under the old system the punk would be hundreds of points back, not just 20.

Don't care the chase.

I do like the 1 point per position.

-As for dreaming, I would make winning worth 50 points, with tne current system.

Bonus points, only for the three drivers who led most.

-5 bonus points for leading the most laps.
-2 bonus points for whoever led the 2nd amount of most laps.
-1 bonus point for for whoever led the 3rd amount of most laps.
[awful syntax, but you get the idea, maybe ?]

That would stop team mates from letting each other get a freebie point. Leading caution laps would not count either.

If I really had my way, only the top 20 spots would earn any points at all.

But this is still better than the pervious system, and if we must have a chase I like the wild cards, winning should be the ultimate.

i like the new points system. get rid of the chase entirely.

It seems to be working as intended and so far, I like it. I'm not a "counter" anymore, but for those familiar with the original point system, using it, where would the teams be today.
;)Just trying to get someone else to do the work for me.;)

Whizzer, I'm not doing your counting for you. :D

Personally, I couldn't keep up with the old system, and to be honest, really don't keep up with the new.

The system is what it is ----

Get rid of the wild card bull**** and it would be fine.

I love the wildcard, it keeps drivers from riding aroundlooking for a good points day. They pretty much know they are in the chase with two wins. Look at Regan, he is a shoe in right now. No one between him and 11th has a win.

I hate it, it's screwing up my fantasy league. The way the points are now makes it hard as hell to climb back up if you have a few bad weeks. Other than ruining my fantasy league I don't care.

Points is points. The only thing I don't like is the current wildcard. Having a wild card in itself is not a bad idea, but here's how I think it should have been done

The top 10 at the 26 race point are in the chase. Two "wildcard" spots could be open for those in 11th and 12th in points, and then only if those drivers have a win. And if the drivers in 11th and 12th don't have a win, then there would only be ten in the chase.

But that's just me:D

Plenty Good! Nationwide Points change is Awesome!!! Reed or Sadler as Champion will be Great!!

I have not problem with the system, what I can't understand is why NASCAR keeps changing it's system to "fix problems" that they see. We got the wildcard this year because Jamie Mac didn't make the chase after winning some big races. Look, I am a fan of Jamie, I think he is a good guy. But if your performance was not up to par in the other races, why should you be given a spot in the chase?

It is just like when NASCAR made it a 12 man field....ridiculous!

Exactly.

But, there were also drivers in the chase who never won a race. From listening to Moody, most of the fans want more importance placed on race wins.

I like the new points system, especially the breakdown of points between posistions. I feel it's much more managable for both the fans and teams alike. It still gives to much for being a Ho Hum mid pack racer and Not enough for being a front runner and not even enough for Winning.
The Wildcard positions are a step in the right direction for giving more credit for Winning but in all honesty I just HATE THE CHASE format. NASCAR only came up with it to try and compete Football in the fall and in my opinion they made the points championship into a circus event and demoted the value of winning races earlier in the season.
If you don't think Racing is ALL about Wining well your just not a racer.

I totally understand that. However, I thought one of the entire points of the chase was more importance on winning. Winning is the best way to accumulate points and make sure you are in the top 10 or 12. If you remember, one of the big reasons they started the chase was because Kenseth won the championship with just 1 win. So then the chase rolls around and we have guys making it in that haven't won a race all year...so did the chase REALLY do what they were looking for?

I know that wins are important, but I also think consistency is important too. Lots of times drivers have a "feast or famine" season. Lots of wins, but no good finishes in the other races. My opinion is that you have to win, but also stay consistent. I don't care if you win 10 races, if you bomb the other 26 were you really the best team that year?

Currently there's only One driver in the top ten with no Wins ( Sorry Jr fans ) and only 3 outside the Top ten with Wins, one of those isn't a full time driver ( kinda bites that the Winner of the Daytona 500 wont be in the points battle ) so I think the points breakdown is about right. I have a feeling by the time Richmond rolls around everyone in the Top 12 will have at least one Win, that battle for 11th and 12th is going to get very interesting!

By the way, I Hate the chase and points racing in general. Racing is about Wining and I beleive individual race Wins are much more important than what credit their being given.

I'll give my opinion on this new format after the season ends...
