Fine in his future? Probably. But it sure is good to hear he is back.
Tony Stewart: 'Ask those f---ing rocket scientists why they f---ing black flagged us'
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The first on-track activity of the season was highlighted by NASCAR black flagging Tony Stewart for failing to weigh in Friday at Daytona International Speedway.
Just after the opening practice began for Saturday night's Sprint Unlimited exhibition race, NASCAR ordered Stewart, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin to return to the garage to be weighed. Busch and Hamlin did as instructed. However, Stewart stayed on the track, ignoring the mandate.
Officials responded by flagging Stewart and ordering him and crew chief Chad Johnston to report to the NASCAR hauler before they could resume practice. Roughly 10 minutes later, Stewart returned to his No. 14 Chevrolet.
Following the first of two practice sessions, an upset Stewart would not elaborate on the incident.
"Go f---ing ask (NASCAR)," Stewart told SB Nation. "Go ask those f---ing rocket scientists why they f---ing black flagged us."
All drivers are required to weigh in so NASCAR can level the weight of cars so that heavier drivers, like Stewart, are not at a disadvantage.
"We do everything we can to keep the competition field equal," NASCAR spokesperson Kristi King told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "The weights in the cars, we do everything we can to keep them the same. ... Tony Stewart is going to weigh a different amount than Danica Patrick, so the weight (crews) put in the car to balance it out to the specifications to pass inspection has to be different.
"Tony has to weigh in find out how much Tony weighs to then find out how much weight needs to go in the car to balance out and equal. Because it's not fair for (the cars of Patrick and Stewart) to get on the race track and not weigh the same amount because one will have an advantage over the other."
