The Only Change I would had made to the Point system after 2003..

give 5 points to the pole sitter.

so winner could earn up to 205 points if he leads the most laps and wins from the Pole.

and kept everything else is as it was no real need to force a playoff for excitment but I still think that was more of the tv networks doing than Nascar but could be wrong
