Well, the confusion, or at least that is one possible explanation to the overkill by Bruton Smith, NASCAR and Good Year. All three had the same idea of trying to correct recent problems at Lowe's Motor Speedway and were on the same page but were they talking to each other ??

It looked as if it were a repeat of the pit crew competition held earlier but was instead, held during the "Coca-Cola Pit Stop 600".

Good Year providing a harder compound tire, was reminiescent of the days when truck tires were used and the mystery then, as now, was how long they would last and who was willing to push them up to or past the limit.

BUt alas, that was then and this is now.

If there were a rate the race thread, racing, crammed in between pit stop competition and commercial messages, could be rated as a 7 as there was some side by side.
It will be interesting to note the comments of others. It was noted by Mike Joy at the conclusion of the event, as entertainment.
Joy said what he thought while Waltrip and McReynolds scrambled and were tripping over thier tounges trying to make nice in thier comments without offending the sanctioning body.

I'd say it was a failure on everyones' part, the biggest failure the small fuel cell. Talk about overkill, the tires probably could of lasted at least 80 laps. Outside of the bead melting on a few cars, the tire held up well, surprised me a little, as i thought there would have been more accidents. I thought the racing itself was decent, when there was actually racing , which wasn't very often because the damn pit stops destroyed most of the momentum. I give it a 6 only because my guy won, if he hadn't i'd of given it a 2. Something puzzles me though....if i didn't know better i'd a thought Nascar mandated the smaller fuel cells to stop the boredom factor??!! Usually in a long race like this there are long green flag runs, well not last night. I'll have to say the pit guys really earned their money last night, they must be a tired bunch today. When is Fox going to do what ABC does during comercials and let us see what is going on while a stupid ad is playing??!!

I think that is what Mike Joy was referring to with his comments at the end of the broadcast. And it certainly was an issue. Entertainment. Break the boredom of 600 miles of on-track action. Many new fans do not know how to look past the first and second place cars so NASCAR wants to bunch'em up, make the event more exciting.

This deal was like one program incorporating a series of Saturday night, thirty laps features.

Now see that is just wrong. The rating of the race should be independent of who won. I'll give it a 5 and my guy didn't win. But, there were some exciting segments.

Take it for what is worth, but if Jeffy won you would of rated it higher also, actually i wanted any driver but JJ to win. I was sick of seeing him win at his sponors' track.

i'd say goodyear should use a medium hard compound (not a hard hard like this time) and nascar should use an 18 gallon tank. A good comprimise.

Jeff Gordon said it best about the junk Goodyear tires. That combined with the small fuel cells made for a poor race.
I'll give it a 2.

Yep...all the changes made by the 3 parties involved added up to another lousy race IMO.

I'm hoping the regular fuel cell will be used in the Fall.

FOX really ruined 5 hours of commercials --- they would break in with a few cars going really fast in circles.

rut-roh, don't let my avatar fool you. While Jeff winning wouldn't have upset me he was not the driver I was pulling for. The winner seldom influences my opinion of whether or not its a good race. There's probably only 2 that I pull against religiously and hope they aren't able to finish the race. (And, what do you know at least 1 of them obliged).
As to Jimmie (I can't say JJ because some will think I mean J.J.Yeley) I did think it amusing that with about 30 laps to go the fans were divided into 2 camps. Those pulling for Jimmie and then the 48 haters. (Kudos to the fans who walked around with the 48 Hater sign after the race. To see the reactions in the stands was hilarious).
I still don't understand the Lil'E phenomenon. I had a lot of misguided Lil'E fans around me and they went absolutely apes**t when he passed Yeley towards the end of the race. I asked what's up and they pointed out he was moving to the front. The fact that he had passed a lap down car and was getting no closer to Kasey never registered.
This one poor soul and wife flew in from Seattle. He was a Tony fan. He got to see Tony wreck in 3 races. I guess he got his money's worth even tho he didn't stay until the end for any of the 3.
And, for the Virginia driver with DJs da Man license plate, dude all that way and he didn't even make 1 lap. Wow, but at least you were there till the end.

Gotta love being there live! Nascar ochestrates a lot of different things to improve ratings , make more money, and make it "look like" the racing is better. This race is one of those such cases.
