What else is there to do in the offseason besides poll people? :p

I think that the amount of provisionals should be reduced to no more than 5, and preferrably 3. They should also dump the "past champion's provisional".

Allowing everyone into the field could also be a viable option, but only if NASCAR also institutes a new point system that reflects the varying amounts of cars.

Top 40 on speed. 3 provisionals to be awarded on the following system:

1. Highest in points standings
2. Past WC champion, if applicable
3. Past event champion, if applicable

Should two of the provisionals remain after these factors, award one to next fastest qualifying speed, then the last one to highest remaining in points. To be eligible for a provisional, a driver MUST attempt a qualifying lap. In the event of qualifying being rained out, line 'em all up on points.

Can you expand on that Lappy? Let's hear more of your thoughts on the topic.

I don't really care for the provisional system right now. I'm tired of seeing slower cars getting into the race when faster cars have to go home.

Fastest 43 make the feild no matter who is no in the field.
If the points leader qualifyes 44th they miss the show.

I say get rid of them. If J. Gordon, JR, Dj, and Awsome Bill couldn't make it on speed then they would pack up and go home.

Get rid of them. Fastest 43 cars get to stay to race, the others get to go home no matter who it is.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL !!! MAY THE BLESSING OF HEAVEN ATTEND YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES ON THIS DAY OF THANKS.

No provisionals. There have been times this year when cars faster on time were sent home because of provisionals. This could affect the point standing but beats making exceptions for a team not making the show one week. It would reward consistency, something the point system was designed to do. If you don't make the show every week you ain't consistent.
And while offering suggestions of making changes, impound a car once it has qualified. It must start the race with the same tires, engine and setup used to qualify.

Just a few thoughts and sugestions from a tired old man.

:) :) :)

I think having to use the same tires and setups might be going too far.

i think they should let everyone race that shows up, and let them qualify for pit stalls

So basically however many pit stalls there are, thats how many people gets to race?

no, the people at the back half of the field have to share pit stalls.

we have seen it already somany times in existing racing. hello?

teams sharing pits? I don't remember that happening. Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention.

I believe that at Richmond, there are a handful of teams at the back that have to share pit stalls to start the race. Usually, they move into other stalls when teams occupying that stall fall out of the race.

Hmmm. I think that needs to change. Not to fair for the guys in the back.

I also agree with TWF - 40 starters with 3 provisionals. :)

I agree with PettyBenson and some others. Fastest 43 cars. Maybe and I repeat maybe a second round of qualifying like the old days. Even if the points leader is 1 point ahead and is only 44th fastest, well bye bye until next race.
Should make things interesting in the championship battle late in the season.
After seeing Darrell Waltrip in his last season use past champions provisional week after week got sickening.
