The Race Forums unofficial greatest Cup driver thread (the rules, and how the contest works)

The thread below links to the previous thread.
http://www.racing-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=39850

There are 48 drivers to choose from
Round one will pair three drivers against each other in 16 different brackets. The one with the most votes advances to next round.
In the event of tie, if a possible there will be a runoff thread to settle matters.
Round two should get us down to 16 finalists. They will go head to head the 1st seed against the 16th, and the 2nd seed against the 15th……

I set the seed or pecking order in round one, but round two will be seeded on votes accumulated in round one. If the votes are tied for a seed then the original seeding will be used, but as much as possible votes will drive the system.

The process will be continuing until the final two go head to head.

The pecking order or seeding process.

The drivers are ranked by cup wins, the first tiebreaker is championships, and the 2nd tiebreaker is winning percentages.

The active drivers rankings used for this contest

-Simply vote on each related poll
-you only get one vote per poll/bracket
-the first round of brackets will last 3 days each, voting is closed after the elapsed time

Ethics

-All votes are equal, if you vote simply for your favorites, and exclude those you personally dislike, it will only be a popularity vote.

-If possible try to vote according to who you think is genuinely the best, liked or not.

-While you have only one vote per poll, you can try to persuade even lobby for who think is the best

-Be passionate but respectful, we all have our own unique perspectives, and remember the person you disagree with has a right to their opinion, even if you think their wrong.

I will get the polls going later today.

Tired and gotta sleep, the wife is mad cause I spent to much time on this crazy game.

Later today the first four elimination polls.....

Cheers to Greg for all the work. :beerbang: I the wife gets too mad, start a "bestest wife in the whole world poll". ;)

Pfffffffhhhhhhhhhh.....

Bestest wife in the whole world pole?

Does she get the pole for being the best wife?

Good job Greg, I agree with your seeding and appreciate your hard work.

I do hate seeing Kulwicki, Bonnett and Rudd get knocked out so early All where great drivers/men.

-Thanks to all for the kind words, and participation.

-The seeding chart may be confusing, I wish I had sorted them one last time, but I doubt I will resort/edit them. Just realize the seeds or order are on the far left of the column

-Apologies to Harry Gant fans, but I had to stop at 48. He was worthy. I regret his exclusion. If this goes well and becomes an annual off season poll, he Tim Richmond, and others will be listed next time.

-Seed order for Waltrip, Allison, and Yarborough. They may have been the toughest to seed, but I went with a universal standard.
Win count/ Cup Titles/ Win percentage.
Supporters of any the 3 have good cases

-Planning to offer two polls after noon, and two polls after midnight per day.

thanks for the effort greg. :beerbang: now how about a double elimination losers bracket?!?!

If folks want it for the final 8 or 16, we could do a double elimination losers bracket.

But I would want the majority to state that preference in this thread.

Cons: It slows down the process probably wouldn't change final winner.

Pros: Offers an expanded look at the final 8/16. More Head to Head confrontations, allows a better chance to tier or rate the drivers.

So far the polls seem to be running as expected Good Job!

Richard Petty
Tony Stewart
Dale Earnhardt
Cale Yarborough
Bobby Allison
David Pearson
Jimmie Johnson

are all moving along.

-All 16, first round polls are now up and running.

-Remember each one closes exactly three days from the time it started, so if you want to vote be mindful of the deadlines.

-The poll numbers are designed to easily check off the ones you have already voted on. Just review letters 1a through 1q to insure you have not overlooked one of the 16 polls.

-I am glad I only made it to q, and didn’t have to break out a dictionary to keep my letters in order.

-After the 16 rounds close hopefully there will be 16 winners. If there is a tie there will be runoff prior to entering round two.

-We want exactly 16, for round two, so that we can pair off 8 polls that will be one on one or head to head matchups.

The seeding or ranking order

-The driver with the most votes will be seeded number one. The surviving driver of round one with the least votes will be seeded 16th.

The order will be: 1 verses 16, 2 verses 15, 3 verses 14, 4 verses 13, 5 verses 12, 6 verses 11, 7 verses 10, and 8 verses 9.

-If there is tie on the number of votes among those 16, the percentages from their polls will be used as a tie breaker to seed or rank them. Finally if their still tied the original seed positions would be used as the last tie breaker.

-The time frame on the 2nd round polls will probably be longer, so if you will be offline during the Christmas holidays you should still have time to vote.

-Remember to vote, big participation equals a better contest.

Thanks to all participants!
