The Red Sox completed a 3-game sweep of the Western Division champion Anaheim Angels tonight (friday). They blew a 6-1 lead in the game but won it on a monster home run by David Ortiz in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 8-6.

The sweep was especially important as now they have 3 days off to get ready for the next series against the winner of the Yankees-Twins series. They can rest some aching bodies and set up their rotation to have Curt Schilling ready to potentially pitch the 1st, 4th and 7th (if needed) games of the next series. Meaning Schilling and Pedro Martinez would pitch 5 of a possible 7 games. That would be pretty hard to beat.

I would love to see a Boston/New York rematch with the Sox winning it in New York. :D

Amen to that brother :salute:

They might just have to turn out the stadium lights on a celebration in the middle of the field at Yankee Stadium if the Red Sox finally beat the Evil Empire for the pennant in their own house. That would be sweet. :)

They would burn Yankee Stadium down and rebuild that place from the ground up if the lowly Sox win the pennant there. :XXROFL:

I would gladly contribute several gallons of gasoline and some matches to that project.

me too. By the way, how's it going tonight?
Who? Me?

If so, things are going fine tonight. Had kind of a lousy day at work, but I quickly decided it just didn't matter and wasn't worth getting ticked off about. It may not be the best attitude, but it gets me through.

I know the feeling, it be's that way sometime.

as a yankee fan im both unhappy and happy at the same time.
unhappy the fact the bo sox won, but i'm glad we're facing them in the ALCS.
we're up 8-1 in the 8th on the twins to take a two games to one lead

we match up better against the sox than the angels, besides the fact we have a curse on our sides...

and i know im opening up a big can of worms by saying this but why does everyone have to say the yankees are the evil empire? So we have a big payroll big deal. it's not like we're the mets that spend over 100 million and finish last. it's not like we've won the world series every year. it's been since 2000 since we've last won one. The angels, marlins, and the d-backs have had small payrolls and are mid to small markets have won the last three world series. it's not like we're cheating, 29 teams in the league voted to implement this luxary tax system(steinbrenner voted against it).

DirtyMo: No offense to you at all, but since you asked...

The Yankees are the embodiment of what is wrong with baseball. Baseball doesn't need a "luxury tax" that can be gotten around simply by spending money to improve your own facilities like the Yankees do. They need a real Salary Cap.

While it is true that the Yankees have gone nearly 5 years without winning a World Series, it is also true that teams like my Indians have gone nearly 60 years without winning one. The Yankees have so much more money to spend than most teams that they can afford to make some big mistakes and George just writes another check. The Indians make a mistake with a guy like Matt Lawton and all of the sudden his $7 million salary handcuffs the teams for several years. George would just trade him and pick up most if not all of his salary and move on. Almost any other team is unable to do that. The Indians have to be almost 100% right 100% of the time to have any chance of competing with them.

When other teams start to gain ground on them the Yankees just buy a guy like Mike Mussina or Kevin Brown. Guys who's original teams groomed and trained for years only to lose them to a team like the Yankees when their salaries got too high.
