This isn't particularly surprising. Jeff has always left the door open for this. He's been careful to say his NASCAR days are over, but not ruling out anything else.

I kind of wonder if Stewart might be doing the same thing. He said his first race next year was on asphalt.

I like to see Tony do the Indy 500 next year as well, I'm sure he'll not be waiting that long to get behind the wheel next year so I'm sure it's not the Indy 500 he means, I'm just throwing that out there haha.

I don't think the DW12 tub is wide enough.

    Seriously.

I missed Tony talking about asphalt, but I'd lay long odds on it being on a track under a half-mile in length. Maybe the Rolex, but I'd bet against it.

He was about 15 minutes away from winning in 2004. He'd probably love a chance for redemption.

I'd love to see the old farts of Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Kyle Petty team up for a Rolex 24 race. Maybe throw Rusty Wallace in there too. They are all fantastic road racers and it would give me an excuse to watch the entire race.

Kyle's been out of the car for too long. Swap him out for Mark Martin, another good road racer.

I don't know where you're going to find a team to put a ride under them. Most of the time when we see 'guest drivers' from other series running at the Rolex, it's because a full-time team in that series needs a couple of extra drivers to cover the entire 24 hours. Fielding a team entirely of former NASCAR drivers would require a fielding a complete extra car above the the number the team normally runs. Few IMSA teams have the budget for that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jeff and Tony find a seat for the Rolex, either together or on different teams. Heck, I'd be surprised if either doesn't show up at one of IMSA's endurance races sometime in the next three years. Tony's a big fan of running 'The Boot' at Watkins Glen, and either might consider the IMSA race at Indy.

Tony had the coolest helmet for one of the 24 Hours at Daytona. It had a toothy smile with a tooth missing.

    Does he even care?

Are we certain he isn't just doing it for the money?

I suspect one of his motivations is to get him some wrist candy. :) I wonder how Tag Hauer feels about this?

There wasn't anything left for him in stock cars other than a win at Kentucky. He's likely looking for something new without full-time obligations and away from a high-profile series. He can keep his hand in, maybe run a few more of the endurance races, see some new tracks. His fans will eat it up; access to IMSA drivers is usually pretty open.

Plus, it's probably a lot easier on his back getting in and out of the car through an actual working door.

Personally I am looking forward to this even more than the 500. With Jeff in the caddy and all 4 Ford gt's running it should be a great race. Heres hoping for another great year for Larson as well

I expect he'll do more sports car racing beside Daytona and Le Mans. I'm waiting on the announcement that he'll team with the Taylors at Watkins Glen so he can race in 'The Boot'.

Won't they need a third for the next race at Sebring? I can't see splitting 12 hours between 2 drivers. I expect that line-up is already in place, and I just haven't yet heard who the third guy will be. That would imply it's NOT Jeff.

They said they don't have anyone yet but there's a lot of interested drivers, but with his FOX obligations I would think he's ruled out until July.

I agree, it is a beautiful race car. But I'm not fond of the double standard that says this purpose-built race car is cool, while a Nascar Cup purpose-built car is scorned for not being like an OEM production car.

IMO, a Taylor Cadillac and a Hendrick Chevrolet are both the same basic thing... Both are hand-built single purpose race cars defined by a set of rules. Both are beautiful in their functionality. Both are very cool.

The car Gordon is racing is a prototype made to look like a prototype.

NASCAR's race cars are trying their best to mimic a steet stock & is ugly in comparison.
